QSSTV for Pups 4, Lupu and Slacko Subject description: QSSTV 7.17 is a slow-scan tv program that a lot of hams need! |
|
hi, can somebody compile a pet or sfs for this slow scan tv studio. it is as far as i know the only sstv program for linux, windows had hundreds. having this available will push puppy to the amateur radio community and i am sure it will be grabbed for the ham pup distros that are very popular.
a previous version is available on the ubuntu synaptic manager but the latest version is the one we need. its most important to get it auto configured to the sound card. it needs to warble on transmit!
myself and at least 7 members of this forum will be eager to test it out on air. i imagine it has many dependencies that are for the ham radio community so good pointers are the hermes repo where amateur radio pups are kept.
Please someone take the time to get this binary up, i promise it will do good in the world!
thanks 73

What Adagio means is, where do we find the program? How about a URL?

sorry, i go to excited to make any sense, the radio bands are crowded with sstv this last few weeks and i was hyped up to be able to see some nice images. i only run puppies but i dug out my emergency backtrack sd card and got qsstv installed on that but it didnt find the soundsystem and then went tits up and crashed.
heres the link to qsstv:
http://users.telenet.be/on4qz/
it also lists a gridsquare package that would be nice to have as a pet, but now im getting greedy!
seriously, thanks to all you guys already. doing a great job there.

hi drspastic
here's a pet of qsstv and qgrid, it was compiled on lucid puppy and i've no idea if it's fully funtional as i don't really know what it does , you'll have to let me know if it's ok.
http://www.wuala.com/666philb/Documents/qsstv-7.1.pet/ 12mb
MD5 5a93d9722ad01d6b458475dd6995461a
It also works on slacko with this extra dep, http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nas/libaudio2_1.9.2-3_i386.deb
Note: that whilst it runs on slacko, it may mess up any other slacko apps that use QT, as the pet contains lucid QT libs. so back up first

here's the lib, http://pkgs.org/ubuntu-10.04/ubuntu-main-i386/libltdl7_2.2.6b-2ubuntu1_i386.deb/download/
that's a good site to find missing libs
again, back up before installing,

well my slacko is gone fubar (not because of your binary) and lucid wont load any more. i think machine #2 is dying.
machine #1 is the puppeee machine. i added that lib, and lo and behold it asks for another. libc.so.6 which i cant find in the massive list on that site. i have a feeling if i find that it will keep asking for more. like giving a gypsy a cigarette.
if i add the dev sfs file will that have all this stuff in it, or are the librarys application specific?
at the moment its 10pm and im trying to hammer a fresh copy of slacko onto a disk-on-module and its not having any of it. i have to be up at 7 to drive a truck of moonshine mash to the distilling house
on the up side of things, i captured a lot of audio files today for qsstv to decode when i get thing sorted, so no more waiting around for someone to transmit. i got half a picture on slacko before it fell apart so i can say your good work is all correct, and i bet if im nice i can get my spare usb drive off the xyl (desperate housewives AND lucid 528!) and boot the eeepc from that. only the touchpad mouse buttons wont work on 528 for some strange reason.
thanks for all the work!

when something asks for a different version of libc (libc is in puppy) i give up trying to get the thing to work, as changing the libc version screws puppy up.
the solution is to compile the application on the puppy version it's to run on. (although some apps require a minimum version of libc)
i'll install puppeee if i get time and have a go, although puppeee is problematic as it now has no repo, to get deps from.

thanks for trying, i should be learning all this myself. maybe its time to let puppeee slip away and get a modern pup installed. i have been reluctant for so long because of the wonderful job jemimah done of having everything perfect for this netbook (701). but it must be time to move on.
i got the other machine working again with 431, later i will get slacko or a version of lucid on it. the wyse has only 256mb ide flash drives x2 and puppy universal installer always hangs when copying the sfs, so i have to play around manually to get it booting right; even copy from the cd only gets the sfs to 33 meg and hangs. 528 just kernel panics with a not synching message.i seem to remember either 5 or 501 worked before. 511 defo wont work. sumfin to do with xorg, cant drop to text console on ctrl alt bs, or shutdown. text mode just hangs. i need vesa only, and i think it was 501 that gave me that.

i have hammered lucid puppy 501 on the machine now and its stable. i installed qsstv but running it asks for libaudio. i may be mistaken, but isnt libaudio built into puppy as standard? im starting to wonder how sloppy qsstv may have been written. so far i only had it run on slacko. pity slacko was too heavy to run qsstv on 550 mhz.
should i bother any more or is it time in your opinion to give up and get on with life?
maybe i should write to the developer

i have now! i just stuck it on my girlfriends eeepc701 after puppeee started getting unstable. she likes it, i havnt had a chance to play with it properly. do you thing sstv will compile on it?
501 needed libaudio for qsstv but the machine is still not powerful enough. im sure its down to the programmer using qt. i know that i coud run sstv under ms dos years back on a 200mhz machine, and bbc micro and zx spectrum used to handle it. the world is a hell of inefficient code today.
if only the russian kolibri guys had kept working on that project!
the eeepc701 should have power to spare running sstv but every puppy after 431 has issues with keyboard map, mouse buttons, just siy stuff like that. it looks like jemimah is on to a winner with saluki. she does not compromise.
