How do I get a dependency to be found?

I want to compile/package GNOME 2.x (not 3.x), but with Openbox as it's window manager. I installed the dependencies to a folder that will be used as a base for the SFS file, but I can't get the dependencies to be recognized. How do I get it to work? (This is a project I want to get done.)

Compiling

Gnome must be a large thing, so for a Beginner ..
