Nice to see is working fine in other distros, i'm downloading now this iso to try it.

Mark, looks like you had some problemsrunning/compiling at the first time, well the no access to root is a feature that can be modified or removed. Well, you did it.

About OggVorbis, what problem you have? i guess is not needed to say that you need ogg devel pacakge installed, if you was able to compile QuDos engine, this mod includes the same code.

At the moment is stopped, but is in mind to add some particle system and some other enhanced features.

I said by email to Malbicho about Qrack sources, well the main reason to remove the file was the no interest from qrack creator, when the version 1.53 was released i sent him an
email about running on linux, never an answer, now with 1.6 released, the same situation, he simply no show interest in another os's, so this is like a boikot, no qrack for now.

I'l come back to report my experiences with Puppy, sure.

Cheers.

QuDos,
I have 2 Puppy-systems, a newer Puppy2, and a old Puppy1, that has grown with libraries in the last month.
I will try to compile again in Puppy1, maybe I installed all the libs there.
More info tomorrow.
Thanks for your nice engine :-)

Note, to compile applications, you need an addon:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Compiling

Download this:
http://dotpups.de/puppy-releases/2.01/development/

Put it in /mnt/home and reboot (if you use the Live-CD, harddisk-installations might require additional steps).
This should automatically mount it, try
gcc
to check if it is was mounted :)

Ok, done.

Yeah, too bad from my side, the problem with ogg vorbis was because vorbisfile was
not calling to vorbis and ogg, so add -lvorbis and -logg to OGG_LDFLAGS in the Makefile and you are right.

Would be intesting if sdl-config is included in puppy, but ok, builds w/out vga and runs fine too.

Looks like there is some issue with glx and fullscreen, can't get fullscreen, the same with quake 3, maybe something in xorg.

Now a question, i booted with option 5, first boot, hod do i to save the configs, net, xorg, ...? =)

Very good work and fast distro, great.

ok, will try this evening with ogg-support.

SDL-config should be in
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=2482 (headers and static)

GLX:
No problem until now, I tried freedesktop-drivers and Atis fglrx (9250 only) with Ati Radeon 7000 and 9250.
Only problem with fglrx in Puppy2: Some games like Doom3 freeze the whole system after 10 minutes; this does not happen with Quake or in Puppy1.

Did you install the DRI-support using this wizard?:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=8661

If you have any other questions getting things to work, just ask, it can be confusing to search in the forums ;)

Option 5, this is normal CD-operation I think? (not shure, I use a special harddisk-install, so have no such menu).

Usually, when you shutdown, you will be offered to save your settings in a file called pup_save.3fs.
This uses 512 MB (if available, else less), and includes its own internal ext3-filesystem.
On next boot, it is mounted automatically, and merged with the read-only folders of pup_201.sfs from the CD, that includes the base-system like X.
This is achieved using "unionfs", so it is possible to write to /usr/X11R6 for example, though originally it is write-protected (as it is on the CD).

one other note, in case you get strange compiler-errors, please look at this bugfix:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=9108 (4th message).

It is not needed for Quake itself, but maybe for some libraries.

Yeah, i did nothing extra, option 5 to boot, configure X with 3D and Nvidia, netcard.

In order to build q2p i compiled SDL from the main site, modified the Makefile adding -lvorbis and -logg and if 1 where you know.

Oki, time to reboot and see.

Cheers

Now i have it.

Fullscreen problem fixed by adding more screen modes, there was only one by default.

In other hand i had some issues where the puppy cd was, if i put the cd in my first device, the dvd-rw, the installer will not run properly and the files are not found,
i must to put the puppy cd in my second device.

Very nice, now enlightenment and some console editor and i'll be happy :P

Puppy has "mp" as consoleeditor.
I prefer mcedit from midnight-commander, you can install it with the dotpupdownloader in the setup-menu.

Or nano:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Text_Editors/

Enlightenment:
we have E16:

http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.p ... hlight=e16

Or in a big addon with lots of other stuff:
http://dotpups.de/puppy-releases/Megapu ... README.htm

Meanwhile Puppy offers a lot of additional programs except new Gnome-dependent applications.
If you miss anything, just ask :)

E17: I had a working CVS-release from august 2005 once, but removed it as my server was full.
But it was relatively easy to use, I had compiled it in Mandrake-Linux, and mounted the folder then in Puppy.
So if you have it already working in another system, this might work for you.
Just add "lib" from E17 to /etc/ld.so.conf
But you could compile in Puppy too, certainly.
I currently move some files from my server, so I could send you a password to upload a current version.

Maybe Mark Ulrich (MU) could be persuaded to add some of these to Muppy? I suggest posing that question in the Muppy thread - see

Most for the games can be found here:

http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Games/William/

The ones with a July 2006 upload date are packaged with MU's dotpup wizard for easy removal.

Quake 3 with demo data can be found here:

http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Games/

It's the file called "icquake3.tar.gz".

Merge with new version of Puppy!

#31 Post by djringjr »

Is there some way that I can merge the 108gameCD2 files (especially the NVIDIA drivers) with the latest Puppy?

I've tried upgrading the NVIDIA drivers from their web site, but I get an error message about the file wanting to install in root and that the Puppy installer doesn't allow that.

I wish there was an override for that error - I get it alot.

Best

Hello Kirk,

I wish to have a look but I cannot access to the link....it seems as if the server was down... Do you have an alternative?

I am preparing a little remaster with games for my childrem's summer holydays and I am looking for Supertux....which is neither in dotpup.de..

Thanks
