Enrique - you mentioned on another post that it is difficult to buy a lightweight "brand new" PC these days - and therefore the new PCs are wasting power and resources. I have a workshop that has no mains power (only solar panels/batteries) and I use an Acer netbook because the power demands are low.

I think there are more and more low-power computing devices becoming available now. Things like Android tablets, Ipads, Raspberry Pi and some other very low power computing devices (some of them quite cheap!!)

I have found Puppy to be a great way to get my computing done quickly on low-powered devices. Great for ecology!

I am looking forward to see what the next 10 years brings us in the area of home computing. I hope that Puppy continues to be at the forefront of lightweight computing.

I would be interested in your comments about the Puppy/Raspberry Pi project. It is only in it's infancy, but the Pi looks like a device that has potential to be useful to ecologically minded communities that can make do without massive processing power. I am planning on using a Pi to run a solar powered NAS file server at home.

Puppy makes it so easy to try so many different things.

Feeding it directly for its 5v power supply = good plan. Solar power, battery, clockwork etc.
Unless Ethernet is required, the model A Raspberry (not yet available) will be even cheaper. . .

Puppy can be used to revitalise old computers but the real green machines are for the future and hopefully will have a higher biodegradeable carbon base.

Radical changes are required for next generation mobile operating systems.
In two years phones are likely to have excellent voice activation whether Siri or Android equivalents

Green should be hi tech, clean and cheap and that really is a social and political drive.
The Ipad is brilliant but toxic - pressure is being placed on Apple. There interests are to provide what users demand.

Because Puppy does not require hard disks to boot from, much like the Raspberry Pii, it is better suited to work across a range of devices.
The woof build system allows a degree of customisation and that is beginning to support lower power devices.

The younger generation is greener and more will be raspberry by the end of the year
