I didn't update the package list when I uploaded the new Firefox-13.0.1.pet. Refresh the package manager to try again. There's a small problem with the Firefox pet that may not effect most people. It will be fixed soon.
Firefox-13.0.1 now installs correctly with the Package Manager.

Firefox 13.0.1 still freezes the desktop when Ctrl>+ is pressed.

Question, is it normal for the Chosen Mirror for the Package Manager to always revert back to ibiblio when Package Manager is closed?

Booting from PXE, haven't embedded savefile into initrd yet, but looking good so far.

@kirk or @jamesbond

I compiled vlc 2.0.1 in fatdog600b2 because I had a feeling that a
firmware pet made by pemasu just might work in fatdog, it did :)
I installed the vlc pet in my fatdog600b1 install to try it out, I
haven't upgraded this pc which has a hauppauge 150 card installed.
01:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)

I had --enable-pvr in the ./configure line.

I'll leave compiling vlc to you (should you decide to do it) but I'll
attach the firmware pet to this post.

The pvr is great for listening to the music channels (39 of them I
think) on the satellite without accessing the web at all, or watching
tv of course.

Did I get unlucky with the SiS SI 7012 chipset? Seems to be detected OK.
Hmm, not sure. What sound modules are loaded? From terminal:

Code: Select all

lsmod | grep snd
What do you see? Here is one link I can see about it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/954461.

Yes. Do you think it is a good idea to keep the selected mirror across invocations?

EDIT: mirror setting is now preserved across invocations. Will be in the next release.

I'll leave the firefox question to kirk :)

Firefox 13.0.1 still freezes the desktop when Ctrl>+ is pressed.
You do mean pressing the Ctrl key and the + key at the same time? That works fine for me.
I had --enable-pvr in the ./configure line.
I forgot that. I'll recompile. Probably put in the firmware too.

Anyone got a PET or SFS of Digikam for Fatdog64?

I'm looking for a good Digital Photo Manager that has email capability. It doesn't need to have edit functions as Gimp can do that.

I have compiled Geeqie which is great but no email. Fotoxx is also good but no email either.

Shotwell looks ok but it's huge.

Any suggestions?

Yes, Ctrl + keys at the same time to increase font size.

I will download and reinstall FD again to see if that makes a difference since Seamonkey and Package Manager have also frozen the desktop. Firefox is the only program that I've noticed a specific pattern for the freeze.

EDIT: New frugal installation on an ext4 partition with fresh downloads does not have freeze ups indicated above. It must have been a corrupt download.

Thanks, jb. Got that machine running something else at present so will check tomorrow. That link seems ominous; at least folks out there know about it. Managed to switch sound on with an old nV 754 board. That's interesting because, those boards came in for serious reliability criticism, yet it's one of my most reliable 64bit testbeds - far better than recent multicored stuff brought in for fixing - all FIATs!

Hi Guys,
booting problem, error 16: Inconsistent file system structure.

This problem also happened with B1 but B2 came out in the meantime.

A2 installed fine still working and in between B1 and B2 I've installed Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.4.2.1 with 3.4.2 kernel and thats booting fine as well as all other puppies.

my layout: all partitions ext4
sda1 - swap partition don't think it ever gets used
sda2 - data partition includes boot/grub menu.lst file
sda3 - frugals partition currently about 30 different frugal installs all working old and new and loads of sfs
sda4 - ext partition
sda5 - 11 some full installs, mint and fedora

I have a script that extracts the files required and puts them in a dir in sda3 - this still working fine. I have also tried frugal install from a cd to a empty partition with the same result. There does not seem to be any difference in the type of files between A2 and B1/B2

I've checked the md5sum, downloaded the iso twice. The only things I can find in the forum are old puppy version 2 similar problems but no fixes.

my hardware is a AMDx4 4gig ram and plenty of space on the hard drive

any pointers well come

thanks

Possibly it's your menu.lst entry, This code works on my hardware.

Code: Select all

title Fatdog64-600b(sdb2/Test7)
  find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /Test7/initrd
  kernel /Test7/vmlinuz savefile=direct:device:sdb2:Test7/fd64save.ext4
  initrd /Test7/initrd

Jim1911 wrote:I had a similar problem, I specified /sdb2/fatdog64-600 and could not find the savefile anywhere.
Perhaps I wasn't too clear on this.
You choose the drive/partition on the partition selection, then in the "savefile" entry you choose the path for the savefile. So for your case you choose "sdb2" in the drive/partition selection; and the the savefile section you can choose the path/name of your savefile e.g "/fatdog64-600/fd64save.ext4" for example. And then add the correct savefile parameter "savefile=direct:device:sdb2:/fatdog64-600/fd64save.ext4".

Anyway if all these is too confusing, doing what you did also works - save to root of partition first and then boot with "savefile=none" and move it elsewhere while editing your menu.lst :D

Do you have any idea which app gives out this error? It looks like GRUB error ... You can try to change "root (hdx,x)" in your grub menu with "rootnoverify" instead. There are other fixes in the following link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... +bug/64928

From the Legacy GRUB manual:
16 : Inconsistent filesystem structure
This error is returned by the filesystem code to denote an internal error caused by the sanity checks of the filesystem structure on disk not matching what it expects. This is usually caused by a corrupt filesystem or bugs in the code handling it in GRUB.

Good moring, jb. I see a beta3 awaiting but haven't visited yet. You asked:
# lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 22480 1
snd_usb_audio 91147 0
snd_pcm_oss 37122 0
snd_hwdep 5757 1 snd_usb_audio
snd_seq_dummy 1311 0
snd_usbmidi_lib 17984 1 snd_usb_audio
snd_seq_oss 26804 0
snd_rawmidi 18178 1 snd_usbmidi_lib
snd_seq_midi_event 5252 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq 47074 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_seq_device 4924 4 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq
snd_mixer_oss 14516 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_intel8x0 26135 0
snd_ac97_codec 108115 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_hda_intel 21597 1
snd_hda_codec 67870 2 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel
ac97_bus 1118 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_pcm 72118 7 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_usb_audio,snd_pcm_oss,sn _intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
snd_timer 18081 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd 55640 18 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_usb_audio,snd_pcm_oss,snd_hwdep,snd_usbmidi_lib,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_mixer_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 4994 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 6681 3 snd_intel8x0,snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

Sound isn't working. Spent a couple of hours checking everything today, so your beta3 will be interesting. Looks like the Ubuntu link confirmation report pertains.

Please don't misunderstand me - I am the world's greatest advocate of Control Panel. However, this one might be a bridge too far. Too many things to setup (unless you live in the USA) just to get started. I prefer the instant on-screen Quickset.

Couldn't get the downloaded FlashPlayer to work in Opera. Opera appears in <network> rather than <internet>.

Could that maybe be my total misunderstanding of naming.
That is the old version from 2010 that is also 64bit? but named like this
Fatdog64 beta3
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=54774

While this thread is about Fatdog64-600b2

So me did not look closely at the naming? Where do you see the Beta3?
I have to apology if I misled you. Maybe Flash or John or Kirk can edit that
title to be Fatdog64 beta3 year 2010 the old version :)
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Since this is the correct thread for the latest Fatdog64-600 release......still testing by booting cd with savefile on internal hdd.Still basically looking solid... no rigorous testing yet but installing a few pets and normal use has revealed no real problems yet.

I have compiled geeqie in fd64-600b1.

It's a great little graphics viewer / photo manager but unfortunately it doesn't have a function to send photos by email.

It's fast and what I really like about it, it doesn't created a lot of thumbnails, taking up additional disk space and it's a single binary.

Works very well in Fatdog.

Thanks smokey01. Geeqie is different from Viewnior
but I do see merit in both of them so I downloaded it.

Edit from within FireFox 13 for FatDog 600.
Installed fast and Flash worked right away.
Thanks for compiling it. Much appreciated.

And I miss that Firewall does not have a Tray Icon
to show it is activated. :)

Haha Grandr has a competing prog named Zarfy
that do the same thing if one go to the Control Panel?

Can one have an icon on the desktop to the Control panel maybe?

Well I don't know if I put a typo in but this killed my poor old faithful grub.

So installed grub4dos from 528 and every-things back to normal had a bit of bother with the save file kept finding old ones in other dir's. Not sure if thats my problem as I'd previously installed fdb1 but it had no save file.

Whilst creating a new partition in gparted(fdb1 cd boot) the desktop drive icons had a wobbly for a few seconds then unsorted themselves and a couple disappeared. Restarting X solved that.

grub4dos did not pick up fd600 a2,b1 or b2. Found everything else.
Maybe not having a gz extension on the initrd? would cause this.

thanks for all the helpful replies to this minor disruption
