Need clarification of PupControl "MyControl" window options |
|
Can someone explain to me what this feature is for? Maybe some examples? I'm going through the tabs. All of them are straight forward except for the My Control option
Thanks!!
Would I use this option to set a key binding for Pupsnap screen capture?

I saw that but I don't understand what this is for. So I can pin apps to this? What is the benefit of doing this?

It is just another feature of PupControl.
The person that wrote the program went a little over the top with stuff this program can do.
I too never saw a reason to use it.
Basically you can assign programs to each button so you can run programs from this tab in PupControl.

OK. Thanks. I was sitting here wondering if there was something special about this feature that I was missing.

PupControl brings together in one place all the facilities for controlling Puppy settings to a users satisfaction.
Radky, the developer, has been pretty good in collecting them all and associating them with the appropriate tabs.
If some other control feature popped up after the last update of PupControl, or maybe something specific to a puplet that Radky does not support, then the My Control tab gives the user the option to add it to the Control Panel.
A second use I can think of is to collect in one place all the most used control features of a user to save them having to jump around the tabs.
If I read the help literally then a third use would be to add the most common apps you use to My Control and then the Control Panel because an alternative launcher (with tabbed interface).

ICPUG,
I'm glad you posted your comments. Now that I think about it, a newbie to Puppy Linux would appreciate it if the most important and frequently used settings were all in one place. Puppy offers that through PupControl, and I for one now understand the reason and functionality behind it. Thanks!!
By the way, is it possible to create a key binding for PupSnap Screen capture through PupControl? I am trying to find a quick way of launching screen capture instead of always having to go to the Graphics sub menu to launch it.

I just saw this from the Pupscan help file Ctrl+Shift+S
How can I change this to something else?

Forget about changing it as such, but rather set up an alternative method.
Exercise your brain and your search skills and if you haven't solved it within a couple of days then post details of your failed efforts and I will tell you how.

Because I am using Openbox it looks like I have to go to the rc.xml file to change/add keyboard shortcuts. I was looking for a GUI solution. Looks like I am out of luck or I would probably have to change my windows manager to something else.

First make a back up copy of your rc.xml file
Then in text editor open the file /root/.config/openbox/rc.xml
look for the section <!-- Keybindings for running applications --> and directly under it under it add:
| Code: |
<keybind key="A-F2">
<action name="Execute">
<command>PupSnap run</command>
</action>
</keybind>
|
Change the keybind key= to what ever you want
A=Alt key
C=Control key
S=Shift key
W=windows / super key
F2=F2 key
etc
Then open a terminal and enter the command: openbox --reconfigure
