Other distros like Ubuntu, and Linux Mint can be tweaked to make them more responsive. Usually through installing a pre-loader and disabling startup programs like Bluetooth. Can PL 5.2.8 be tweaked as well? If so, how? Thanks.

Tweaked you say? Smile

You bet your chihuahua! Smile
You could just remaster (built in - under setup in Puppy 5.3.3.1 menu)
or use woof2

You could start with a barebones saluki and go from there

Working specifically with Lucid (5.2)
pemasua has created some tweaked versions and could probably advise better . . .

Lucid Puppy 528 has several methods to do the kind of things you are talking about.

menu->System->Bootmanager configure bootup

setup icon on desktop->PupControl->Desktop tab->Window Manager Settings.

Other programs in PupControl have adjustment settings.

/root/startup directory.
The files here are program scripts that start various programs at startup. You can add or remove scripts to change what starts. Be careful here, some of this stuff is needed.

I notice PL 5.2.8 while small in size has more programs than I've ever need or use. Could I use Woof to remaster PL without a lot of this stuff and just make a stripped down version?

Woof is used to build a version of Puppy rather than a remaster, and is more complicated. You could delete programs and then use the remaster tool.

However, most programs are chosen for their small size so remove many won't save much room.

Also, there are 'barebone' Puppy versions.
