Wifi security. Hidden to the neighbors?

My smartphones scan the neighborhood for open wifi spots.
While doing it it came upon a "hidden" such and that user
seemed to have some counter measure detection.

suddenly a text came up. "Go away! ..." I have forgot the exact words.
But testing with my second smartphone it only showed the "Hidden Wifi"
and gave no warning message. Different brands of Smartphones.
One SonyEricson and the other a Nokia.

I guees that Frisbee should be able to see same wifi using my netbook.

Now security. Almost each day at about 5.30 each morning the SonyEricson
make cute noices not those that are related to Text message or email or
such so not sure what happen. But the phone indicate that something is
going on. The battery is almost full so it does not tell me to charge it.
No message or anything else has arrived.

Can this noise be that neighbor scanning his neighbors?
What else can it be? Why would a smartphone suddenly
make cute noises in the early morning? And no apparent reason at all?

I guess I should set the phone on total silence during the night so it
does not wake me up that early. I only have one room so not easy
to make the sound less noisy bu muffling it inside a box or something.

Are you referring to hidden SSIDs?
There is an old thread by rarsa giving some good info about this.
You probably have already read it of course

Thanks I should look for it then. What made me worry where the tone
of daring warning it expressed. Could he be that clever that he see me
each time I activate my computer. Maybe I need to hid the ssid too.
Not that I know how to.

Okay should search for rarsa hidden SSID okay here it is?
