Hi,

I am a wary5 user.
I found three/four different packages on kernel source/header in the below links.

1. linux_header_t2-2.6.32.pet
at http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/quirky/pet_packages-wary5/
2. linux_kernel-2.6.32-40-w5.pet
at http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/quirky/pet_packages-wary5/
3. linux26-2.6.27.47-w5.pet
at http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/quirky/pet_packages-wary5OLD/
4. kernel_src-2.6.32.59-patched.sfs
at http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/quirky/sfs/

what is the defference between these four package names? What do each one contain?
1. linux_header
2. linux_kernel
3. linux26
4. kernel_src

When what is needed?

Which one is needed to compile vbox?

Sincerely,
Srinivas Nayak

hi snayak

it's the kernel_src.sfs you need to compile vbox. and it needs to be the same kernel version as the puppy you are using. to check your kernel version go to the......... menu > system > hardinfo and click on the 'operating system' tab, to show your kernel version

Dear 666philb,
Many thanks for your reply.
When we use linux_header?

Does devx contains linux_header?

Sincerely,
Srinivas Nayak

Not sure about the kernel header packages :

/usr/include/linux from the pup_5_devx.sfs should include the headers and their syntax configuration for the current used kernel .

The kernel source includes a ./include directory .

These ./include files are the ones i often use now . Because of not being configured the issue warnings about this .

linux_header are used for compiling hardware related apps like Xorg drivers or file system drivers, mostly non-gui things like shared libraries or command line tools .

Quote:
3. linux26
came up when the kernel 2.6 was introduced to distinguish from earlier kernel versions ie 2.4.x or 2.2.y
