Mini vMac 3 on a Puppy machine
Posted: Mon 09 Jul 2012, 23:52
Download the emulation solftware plus sys7 here
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-65b11f75.html
EDIT: New version has OS 7.5.5 and a much bigger
image 100mb and more useful software Stuffitdeluxe 4.5
Diskcopy and Word perfect 1.2
Import and export apps are included too!!
However read my remarks about memory hogging
in the post down the page
I've put together an archive with all the software you need for
the emulation. I've included the Mac plus ROM called
Mac_Plus_ROM.zip which I got from this site
Try here
All the software in the archive is freely available
downloads or shareware or demos.
Here are the instructions to install Min vMac on your machine
i.e. the host machine is running puppy linux
I've gotten surprising good results with Mini vMac running on
puppy linux machine . (See image)
Instructions for quick install:
Make a folder(any name) on your hard drive and place the file 'Mini vMac'
and vMac.ROM in the folder.
You launch the app by clicking
on executable file 'Mini vMac' (or execute at terminal ./'Mini vMac').
Next step --->
Dragging the Mac OS 7.5.5 image (about 100mb) on the flashing icon to mount the image
which has all the necessary system 7.5.5 software inside.
That's it!!! Everything should be working now. It's simple
and quick. ... and it's very stable. The only negative
is it takes up some RAM of your machine , but only
a few megs. There is NO slowdown of your computer
unlike other emulators.
Extra info:
Press the control key for help system.
CTRL-Q CTRL-Y to quit and then say yes
To start load of system software again ---->
go to Special menu and chose 'Restart' or 'Shutdown' and drag Disk.dsk
into window again
If successful, restart and then drag the disk.dsk on the flashing icon to start the system software.
To stop the emulation ---> Shutdown from Mac menu and
then close emulation window.

I've included some apps I still had available
like a share ware version of stuffit, a menu clock
and a screen shot saver. The Wordperfect is a freeware
version. There is two versions of Stuffit . One
freeware and the other shareware. But beware that
these are old versions so they will only open early versions
of the archive format. This rule applies for
all old mac software. Formats have changed over the years.
Access to a new Mac machine may be necessary to open a
file!!
To make a screenshot press ALT - shift - 5
In the emulator the ALT key mimics Apple's Command key
Tip using BBedit Lite : Don't select 'Show invisibles' option.
It causes a crash, probably because symbols font isn't
installed.
Tip using games: I included lots of games. I highly recommend
'Columns' ---> use JKL keys for movement
Lots of games and more software are available
