PuppEX Slack64 Live CD :: Build 160823

#1 Post by exton »

ABOUT PuppEX Slack64
PuppEX Slack64 is a remaster of Puppy Linux Slacko64 6.3.2, released in June, 2016. Kernel 4.7.2-x86_64-puppex is used. PuppEX Slack64 uses the original Puppy Slacko64 Desktop. I have added PCManFM and LXTerminal. They are more useful than ROX-Filer respectively RXVT, I think. The ISO file is on the whole 557 MB, which is due to me including also NVIDIA Graphics driver 367.35, Gimp, Google Chrome (for Netflix), Adobe Flash and some compiling tools. If you want more you can download and load (Menu >> Setup >> SFS-Load-on-the-fly) devx_puppex_slack64_6.3.2.sfs. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is "good/modern" enough. Puppy Slacko64 original is of only 238 MB. PuppEX Slack64 is despite this still running as fast as the original, which means it runs very, very fast compared to most other Linux systems. (Puppy/PuppEX runs from RAM).

Puppy Slacko64 6.3.2/PuppEX Slack64 is compatible with Slackware 14.1.

Booted and setup network, and desktop, then rebooted creating a
savefile.
It was using the nouveau driver so I ran bootmanager and deleted the
nouveau module, rebooted.
Then ran xorgwizard and chose the nvidia driver, ran nvidia-xconfig and
rebooted again.

Seems to be working well so far.
Thanks

Just a quick live test so far. Using the nouveau driver since this box has an older gpu. Nvidia driver should work on the boxes with newer Nvidia cards though.

Thanks for giving us this derivative of Puppy!

However, please help to keep some order to this forum and post it in the correct section of the forum.

This should be posted in the "Puppy derivatives" section of the forum.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

I used the same method to setup the Nvidia driver as my first post.

It's working well.
Thanks

Later: I added applications with PPM + pets + compiled some.
I removed the built-in Mplayer (kept mplayer_codecs_basic) and compiled
Mplayer-1.3.0,Smtube-16.7.2,Smplayer-16.8.0,added ca-certificates with
PPM
Kpat installs qt-4.8.7 (needed by Smtube,Smplayer, and Vlc),qt-487 on
it's own is also available in PPM.
Installed Audacious-3.7.2 and Vlc-2.2.4 from pets.
