[SOLVED]No desktop background and drive icons at startup Sub_title: Took too long to load from (USB) flash memory at boot
It happened to me all the time: my fancy background image and drive icons not shown at startup of Puppy. Only a restart of X-server would bring them back.
What I suspected was true: the background image size was too large and took too long to load from the USB flash, where it resides in the puppy-save sfs file. Note that reading (and writing) speeds of files on flash can be relatively slow.
My fancy background image was a png of 1.6Mb. When replaced with a jpg it was only 150K. With the jpg in stead of the png the desktop loads immediately with background and icons as it should be. Edited_time_total

thanks for the info, I've had this happen from normal harddrive - good to know one of the causes ; -) _________________ helping Wiki for help | IF SendSpace link = "dead" THEN PM me ("up file to http://meownplanet.net/")
