XFCE gives that special touch to a Puppy derivative without making the ISO too big. Thanks for sharing this with us, Jejy69.

One thing I missed from regular Puppy Linux is a button on the taskbar to show the desktop (i.e. a button that minimizes all windows at once), I couldn't find a way to add that myself. Then I was listening to podcasts and some MP3 files got "scrambled", for example file 2 is now the same as file four, I mean the files don't play the content they're supposed to play, even changing media/sound players.

I got well to the Internet, I'm posting this from Valiant Ship right now. I'm using the Slacko based Valiant, but as my computer is not real powerful I may try the Wary based Valiant if it is released. I suggest that when you fix a bug you release a .pet to correct that bug without having to download a whole new ISO again, especially if the bug is not too relevant to make a new ISO file.
*EDIT*
Forget the MP3 issue, it seems the file itself is the cause.

Xfce also works with a Saluki.
I tried it as well. It is interesting that this puplet RAM consumption is significantly less.
Saluki: 114MB, it is 68 MB.
I think the difference is due to different kernel.
However, the openbox (for example lupu525, openbox+tint2panel) is less
This is very good options there.
Congratulations!

Jejy69 wrote:Thank you for the report, I will beginq SFS soon, it will be better. I'll lose less time in Puplet. :)

Even if it takes time, I will try an SFS for several versions as LXDE (Wary, Racy etc.)
Aside from being a person that prefers SFS over pre-installed packages, SFS files for core components like GUI are a MAJOR help for the communinty as people can see what you've done to make it work. I know myself I've learned so much being able to see what others have had to do to make things work. I can then take that knowledge and put it to use in other puppy projects. An SFS package for a Window Manager also means I dont have to bother the developer by asking questions about what they did, since I can take MY time and go through their work and 1) learn it for myself and 2) Build on their work and make something new for the puppy community.

Nice job on this Puplet! I like it. I was going to do the same thing in Woof, but now I don't have to. Thanks!

BTW, when I put in a USB stick, it doesn't seem to mount, that is, I don't see it on the desktop. But I can see it in Thunar, no problem!

Mike

P.S. I loaded up LibreOffice.sfs I notice that to launch it, I have to go to Usr->Bin, and launch libreoffice3.5. Should it have gone into the menus?

Never mind. When I reboot, it shows up in the menus.!!!!!

Here you go. I came up with something like this using your Valiant.

Great job.

In saluki we had that problem also, that is because the icon cache isn't updated by SFS loader, if you add this to the bottom of the fixmenus script that should load the menus without restartingX.

Code: Select all

gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
touch --no-create /usr/share/applications/

I used the original Zukitwo-Dark theme that came with the distro. I also used emerald to tweak the windows a little bit then add an elegant wallpaper to match it all, and there you have it.

Resize personal storage file does not work

#30 Post by Pelo »

pourquoi ne puis-je pas augmenter mon fichier personnel ?
Cannot increase the size of personal storage.
Au reboot, pas de prise en compte de ma demande. Et je l'ai refait 2 ou 3 fois.
Il faut retrofiter le resizepfile dans usr sbin sur celui de la Slacko 5.3.
Somebody knows ?

Alors pourquoi parle-t-on anglais ? A eux de traduire pour une fois, il ont bien étudié une langue étrangère à l'école ?
Cuando me voy en el forum iberico, yo encuentro a Medor.
No es necessario de hablar inglès aqui !

Hi all,

I've downloaded the iso and i have to say, much better than the PET for lucid.
But i have found one problem. The sound is a little fast than it is suppose to be. the strange thing it is only in gnome mplayer, particularly the audio not the video. But that's ok, i have found that switching the Audio Output to ALSA solves it (I wrote this because maybe it will help somebody).

@vicmz
You can make it comes by clicking the right mouse click on the panel (or any icon on the panel) then panel then add new items, you will find it as Show Desktop.
