I did a manual frugal install to an 8gb flash drive.
I installed mesa+devx+kernelsourcesfs+NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.22.run

I found that pets need to be installed from rox or by using petget from
the terminal.

I've only been using this for a bit, will continue testing.
No major problems so far :)

Another quick test run live pfix=ram....... all basics working on initial boot.Sound, internet and display all working and correct.More testing......

Ok, thanks, I need to work on default actions files. :)

Really like this version - everything seems fine, just using it - as is - for the moment.

No problems with normal browsing and/or file management that I've noticed yet.

The XFCE setup is very comprehensive - nice.

For me - this one is a winner.

Thanks again - very best regards - Ray

Hi Ray MK ! :)

You can get an error when deleting a folder is not empty. "Invalid cross-device link".
In case, I added a command in the dialog (right click)
"Remove if error, invalid cross-link"

I'll create a SFS for this, you'll be able to use it on your favorite Puppy :D

Cheers ! :D

Thanks for everything - an SFS will be really useful - look forward to using it.

jejy69, you mean a sfs to transform slacko to valiant ship? sorry, i don't understand. this puplet is great, i like it

Not exactly, I'll try to create a SFS for the XFCE 4.10 desktop only.
Like that, others can try without download an entire ISO. :)

Yes! Drag an icon from the menu to the taskbar and it installs there as a "shortcut." Yes!

I installed a pet from Thunar. Did Bilttoo have a problem with that?

No firstrun wizard ran on first boot. No systray with connect icon, etc., No auto connection to ethernet. Not necessarily complaining but people are used to them.

Agree with Ray MK.

Necessary to change desktop and Thunar separately to single-click.

An sfs might not be as easy because files on sfs won't replace default files. However, 01micko did make an xfce sfs for an early version of Lucid.

Thank you for the report, I will beginq SFS soon, it will be better. I'll lose less time in Puplet. :)

Even if it takes time, I will try an SFS for several versions as LXDE (Wary, Racy etc.)

Somewhat to my surprise the latest version of Audacious 3.2.3 seems to work. Nice colorful icons too!

http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/Audacious-3.2.3-2.pet

What I was trying to say about the panel is that it works in the modern way as most users now expect--it is easy to configure using the gui and drag and drop. It is also easy to move elements around on the panel using Settings -> Panel -> Items. The Setting Manager or Menu -> Desktop -> XFCE allows users to customize delightfully. As the Trash works as users expect. And help seems to work in all the XFCE apps.

XFCE has a history with Puppy. 01micko made an XFCE sfs for an early version of Lucid and Jemimah has been using it in Saluki. In the old days I wrote a review of window managers for Mandrake 9.0 and included XFCE--then Olivier Fourdan himself wrote to remind me that XFCE was a desktop environment not just a wm ;-)

gray has used xfce in all his early Nops plus QuirkyNop, RacyNop, and WaryNop, probably more.

I've used Nop, QNop, and currently RacyNop/

XFCE gives that special touch to a Puppy derivative without making the ISO too big. Thanks for sharing this with us, Jejy69.

One thing I missed from regular Puppy Linux is a button on the taskbar to show the desktop (i.e. a button that minimizes all windows at once), I couldn't find a way to add that myself. Then I was listening to podcasts and some MP3 files got "scrambled", for example file 2 is now the same as file four, I mean the files don't play the content they're supposed to play, even changing media/sound players.

I got well to the Internet, I'm posting this from Valiant Ship right now. I'm using the Slacko based Valiant, but as my computer is not real powerful I may try the Wary based Valiant if it is released. I suggest that when you fix a bug you release a .pet to correct that bug without having to download a whole new ISO again, especially if the bug is not too relevant to make a new ISO file.
*EDIT*
Forget the MP3 issue, it seems the file itself is the cause.

Xfce also works with a Saluki.
I tried it as well. It is interesting that this puplet RAM consumption is significantly less.
Saluki: 114MB, it is 68 MB.
I think the difference is due to different kernel.
However, the openbox (for example lupu525, openbox+tint2panel) is less
This is very good options there.
Congratulations!

Aside from being a person that prefers SFS over pre-installed packages, SFS files for core components like GUI are a MAJOR help for the communinty as people can see what you've done to make it work. I know myself I've learned so much being able to see what others have had to do to make things work. I can then take that knowledge and put it to use in other puppy projects. An SFS package for a Window Manager also means I dont have to bother the developer by asking questions about what they did, since I can take MY time and go through their work and 1) learn it for myself and 2) Build on their work and make something new for the puppy community.
