I made the sfs file in slacko 533 using dir2sfs....worked fine there. It showed in sfs load, and once it was there, it also showed in the boot manager.

As for java, when it gets close to release I'll make a pet and sfs of the latest version at the time. I was looking at making an app to do it automatically, I may revisit that. |
Great.....hopefully the autoapp will work when Slacko lives on a bootable usb formatted in fat32.
thanks

Well done, mick! Tested the regular & FF whilst you were sleeping. Both represent substantial improvements, fast smooth and stable. No issues to report across a slew of SktA, 478, 775, 754 and 939 machines with 256Mb or >. Shame that the SP seems to have increased from a comfortable 192Mb, recently, but I'll be twiddling some more buttons with Slacko in the coming weeks to see what the art of the possible might be.
There might be more interest welling up for a revival of your miniSlack? BK has also mentioned a possible cut-down Pup. Certainly, I've always advocated a sub-100Mb .iso, although a sub-50 target seems to have vanished in the wind. John's MeanPup remains in my armoury.
Just the Netgear/Cohiba/Wiston/Prism dongle issue remains, not unique to Slacko or even Puppy. Weirdest device I've ever seen, but would be useful if a guru could crack this problem before I crack its case with a lump hammer. Or worse, decamp to PCLOS! Despite scathing attacks on the Web, there do exist distros that successfully activate it.

Broadcom & Chromium |

I've created the delta file needed to install the Broadcom wl wifi driver onto Slacko 5.3.6.5 with Kernel 3.2.31-4g - it's available from:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=648553#648553
[edit] deleted - see later post [/edit]
I've tested 5.3.6.5-4g-FF with b43, wl, frisbee, firefox and pnethood and all seems as expected.
I'm having problems keeping up with the flood of multiple versions!! So haven't downloaded the PAE version yet.
Cheers

I'm sad to report that the Chromium 22 pet created from slacky.eu that worked fine on the previous beta 5.3.6.0 no longer works on 5.3.6.5-4g-FF - just gives "Segmentation fault" when run in a terminal
It was the 13.37 version so maybe the 14.0 version (not yet available) is now needed? |
Strange its working for me. (I did try to like FF for about 2 minutes) I did update flash prior to installing your pet.

Finally got a handle on the Cohiba/Netgear beast - maybe. It actually works with SNS out of the new Carolina 002 at first attempt. Maybe we can persuade BK/mick/jamesbond and co. to examine & communicated with the ever-energetic elroy to discover what he does that's different. Did use a 3.4G 64bit Intel box on this test, so not sure if that's a factor? It doesn't seem to be so with other Puppy test boxes. Correspondents on other Fora insist that this dongle is 64bit incompatible, which we now know isn't true - it runs on Mint Xfce 64bit, too.
For the record, Saluki was always a struggle and Carolina001 was a bit of a lemon on most of my systems, but C002 is very much improved.

I just finished setting up 5365 non pae and I found the same two small
bugs, the kdegames dependency and having to remove the csh in profile.d
Otherwise it's working great.

Hi ETP
You are correct - my report was mistaken - due to being too frugal with my savefile size - once I'd retried with a 512MB savefile everything worked OK.
My apologies that I mislead you.
Cheers

libqtwebkit is missing for bibletime, and is not in any of the repos,
Also pmusic is not opening up any dir/files-don't know if zigbert has been told or not about this.
I downloaded DeafBeef music player it works. That is all so far.

I do like the look of this edition of slacko-5.3.6.5-non pae;
Geany is in Utility and not in Document/text, But you may know this already.
Also I downloaded icewm and the menu does not work even after doing fixmenus. I know that there will be somethings that will need to be fixed.
Just going through the repo of slacko.
Cheers
