It was a large download + updating packages with slackpkg for another
large download but it's working great so far.

I'm looking forward to the next slacko too

EDIT: The nexuiz screenshot is from a slackware 14 install on a dual core computer using the nouveau driver which works better than the proprietary nvidia driver imo.

Hi

I too get the black screen after xwin starts, ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't work - using USB keyboard and from pressing caps-lock it looks like there is no response.

Got it to work by adding pfix=nox, then using xorgwizard to select Vesa instead of Xorg. Xorg still no good with mesa-8.04.

In the Puppy Package I can only select slackware packages.

Hopefully with the maximum number of sfs files that can be loaded at boot will be increased, or an application that allows one to boot more than 6 would be helpful?

Is there a sfs combiner that works with Slacko on a USB?

If you have a frugal installation of Slacko you might like to take a backup of your save file and try seaside's load all sfs files in a directory at once

Especially if the above works well you may also like Simple Menu from technosaurus which should show a full menu including sfs files very quickly.

I think 01micko said he is thinking about including JWM tools update (also from technosaurus, which looks very professional, shows sfs loads in its menu and is 15 times faster than JWM 'fixmenus').

PupMenu from radky will also show sfs loads (use the full screen "refresh" button or reload as needed). It has many other interesting and useful options.

I was making Russian remaster of this Slacko and found some bugs. I wanted to test pnethood after translation but I don't have any network to test so it should have displayed an error of no network, but it displays nothing. I fixed it by copying part of working script and pasting it into this one.
Mounted iso-image was not visible in remasterpup so I have applied my old fix, also xz compression is very slow on my PC so I guess it would be nice to have some dialog box with the choice of compression.
Also smaller mplayer pet in this thread is not only smaller but it works better. (No delay between video and sound on downloaded from YouTube clip: BBC Olympics Montage set to John Lennon's Imagine.flv.) Delay was in Racy-5.3 and on bigger Mplayer pet.

Beta is out.

Should be a substantial improvement over alpha, I did plenty of tests on video in a variety of machines:

my test results wrote: These are video reports from all the hardware I have
except my main nvidia card, it always works anyway, same
with the onboard nvidia in the same box. (Athlon-X2)
I used Nexuiz, an open source 3D shooter introduced to
me by Billtoo to test real world graphics performance, not
scientifically, just either it works or not.
I also have my wife's macbook with nvidia, but that always
works perfectly so didn't test.
I used the "export vblank_mode=0" variable to get the
true glxgears reading in all cases.

Can you try export vblank_mode=0 then glxgears please? I am thinking that nouveau has progressed to the point that it is now better than the proprietary nvidia driver, at least on older cards anyway. It is on my Vanta.

Not much diff on the 440, you should see a substantial difference on the intel, as I did and with the radeons.

edit: you beat me! I don't really know what to make of any of that anyway! That's why I use the Nexuiz game as a benchmark. I'll have to look into the performance figures in that. It's a pretty big download though at ~900M, cross platform with mac and windows, but that extra stuff is only a few meg.

I think the vblank sync mode is configured differently for the proprietary drivers, but they seem to default to OFF anyway.

The vblank_mode variable probably only works with the xorg driver.

The Xorg drivers seem to default to ON

You normally need it ON for playing Video because it helps the player to avoid tearing etc. But media players can normally configure the parameter themselves.

I don't know about games, but they probably configure it for themselves, as well.

With my RS880G integrated graphics on fd64 600 as an example, glxgears does:

60 with xorg r600g default
900 with xorg r600g vblank_mode=0
3500 with AMD fglrx default. (Catalyst 12.4)

I don't have a 32 bit Puppy with up to date Xorg and fglrx to compare.

Precise does:
800 with xorg r600g vblank_mode=0

So 32 bit is not much slower on this test.
