I know this is based on Precise Pangolin but some people may not. It is a good idea to provide links. What this is an alpha of and so on. :)
This is a great effort and with mick (01micko) and maybe Larry (playdayz) coming in with his Lucid experience we could be on to a another pedigree Puppy. 8)

Enjoy the effort.
I will put a link on the wiki front page shortly and hopefully you will get that most treasured of resources - testers :)

Bravo.

Wooohoo! :D
Working from "Pecise-5.2.60-SCSI->Seamonkey-2.9.1".
This is one of the few [five] Puppies I've found so far that work with this brand-new 64-bit PC hardware.

So far everything I've tried "just works". 8)

All seems to be working OK here on my HP550 laptop (limited testing - frugal install).

Loaded the Broadcom-WL wifi driver pet that I made for BK's version and that worked just fine.

Obviously same kernel as the BK version - but is a new devx needed??

Thanks

1. What's the best way to get WINE working?
I have mnt/home/wine-1.5.4-i486.sfs and chose to have that loaded at boot, but when I ran winefile, I got...

Code: Select all

# winefile
/usr/bin/wine: error while loading shared libraries: libwine.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
#
Is there an easy way to supply this library?

2. Couldn't find a suitable PET for WINE in the PPM.
Am I looking in the wrong repo's I wonder.

1. xfe_staticFOX-1.32.1-i486.pet installed OK [from my store on a Flash Drive], and runs OK.

2. Installed [from my store on a Flash Drive]:
dotpuphandler-0.0.4.pet [Used ROX to install]
PuppyBasic-2.6.pet [Used ROX to install]
smm1.0.pup [Used petget within Xfe to install, ROX wouldn't do it]
(a) Running smm in URXVT gives:

Code: Select all

smm: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
#
Tried to download gtk+12-1.2.10 using PPM, but it would only allow the choice of "puppy-3-official->Local folder".
Found:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-3/gtk+12-1.2.10.pet
Installed it, but smm run in URXVT giving the error:

Code: Select all

# smm
smm: error while loading shared libraries: libgmodule-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
#
So...

(b) Got a link in this post to glib12-1.2.10.pet, and installed it, and saved it to store.
smm now runs OK, and fetches from my pop3 account. :D

Hello everyone,

peebee
I am not sure about the devx, but I have a link for it on the first post.
Could I get that pet so I can put it in the next build? thanks

Sylvander
I take it that smm is for getting mail right. I will check on wine and the libs that are needed for smm.

Thanks

D/L iso and booted to desktop - no problem
sound = ok
auto conect to internet = ok

minor glitch found in abiword - does not open properly
I installed abiword-2.9.0-lucid52.pet and now works. Abiword help also works.
I installed firewallstate-2.1.pet in order to get icon in tray. It works
Installed Pburn-3.73.pet and pburn works on my machine
Then I installed audacious-3.2.3-2
Evince-2.30.3-i386
geany-1.22-i686
So far, everything I have tried works

Hi there
Slightly complicated as the wl driver has to be compiled specifically for a particular kernel + it has to be combined with the logic produced by rerwin which ensures that the best driver is used for the many types of broadcom wifi....

My pet supports a number of different kernels by making use of xdelta3 at install time. It therefore works fine as an add-on pet but isn't suitable as a pet to build into the iso.

Rerwin is hoping to get his logic accepted by Barry into woof2...

If you want just the driver compiled for the 3.2.18 kernel then I can post that for you - rerwin's latest (final?) logic is in the experiment-7 pet attached to:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=362

Sorry it's a bit complicated :?
Cheers

p.s. my add-on all-in-one multi kernel pet is here:

I will see what I can do about abiword in the next build. Will talk with Mick on this one.

peebee

That is ok at least people who need the pet by Rerwin can get it.

What I like about Puppy is that old dogs like me can learn new tricks :lol:

Thanks

Right.
It's like Mailwasher in Windows but not quite as good.
smm will show all the emails sitting on the pop3 server, and display some of the text content.
No infection can be downloaded by smm onto the PC.
Very handy.
Spam can be quickly ticked for deletion, and only the remaining mail downloaded onto the PC...
In my case by Thunderbird.

2. Used the PET you linked to install WINE, and it's now working OK.

help doesn't work in abiword
I am downloading now, but that is probably because gvfs is not installed (the approach in Lucid 5.2.8.005). Slacko uses another approach. I will see if the technique from Lucid will work. Even if gvfs is installed a couple of other things need to be done

I will be any help I can be if I see any issues that we dealt with in Lucid (as the gvfs).

We already have one very nice Puppy (Slacko) with jwm and Seamonkey--maybe some consideration could be given to an alternate desktop--possibly one with a traditional trash/recycle system, maybe xfce or lxde. Jejy69 has derivatives that demonstrate both. I mention this because it might be good to test an alternate desktop from the beginning, if one was to be used.

LXDE -> http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=79810
XFCE -> http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=80010

This Google Chrome 21 pet seems to work -> http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/Googl ... -Lucid.pet
.

Hi

Sylvander

I am glad that wine is working for you,

playdayz

I do thank you for any help that you will bring to this. I would like to try the LXDE just not sure on how it would be done. Would probably need a pet or sfs right for woof build?

Thanks to everyone who has tested this puppy so far
