You are in luck mate....>>> webserverpuppyx1.iso
CatDude to the rescue.

Download link below.

http://puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/ ... uppyx1.iso

::::

From this link

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 5d6bf1e60d

Plenty of reading in that post.

" You can grab a copy of webserverpuppyx1.iso
here:

webserverpuppyx1.iso
webserverpuppyx1.iso.md5.txt
md5sum = 52e2fc7875ead7efa9113736e03d3644

Username = puppy
Password = linux

I believe this is the version with Apache and ProFTPD (96 MB) "

"""""""

Really hard to find.
Only found it by using >>>

http://www.wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html

"""""
Also saw this.

thanks! I did find that link before actually but did not know what to make of it....

My problem is I want to use a Puppy Webserver for a Uni project but would like an 'official' source to quote - how do you think I should state that I downloaded it from CatDude?

I guess my main issue is that it needs to be from a trusted source...

Iwould suggest to download some official wary/racy/quirky/lupu/slacko incl. devx, install them and compile

http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/hardy/lighttpd

Took me less then five minutes with my header structure .

I am unemployed, so let me know if the Uni could need a plumber/smith/carpenter that would forge the raw materials . :P

Hello fatman57

Welcome to the 'official' kennels. :wink:

Well, first of all, you did not download it from me, I was only responsible for uploading it.

You actually downloaded it from russoodle's site,
which although it may not be an 'official' source, i'm sure many would consider it trustworthy enough.

:shock: As already pointed out above.

But,
if you need more convincing, then go here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20100106023621/http://browserpuppy.com/server.html
(it's a snapshot of the original site)

scroll down to the third missing image :roll: ,
and look at Download webserverpuppy (with Apache and ProFTPD*)

You will see that the "MD5 Checksum: 52e2fc7875ead7efa9113736e03d3644"
is EXACTLY the same as the one i posted,
therefore you can rest assured that it is a 'pucker' copy of the ISO
and has not been tampered with in any way whatsoever.

Thanks CatDude - much respect for your efforts and input in keeping it alive! I would be up for providing hosting for the webserverpuppy copy to help satisfy my strange and unjustified bias for a RAM OS - I did download the copy to have a look and play (I did a few years ago with the original but when I went back it was all gone!)...

Any idea on the story of what happened to it?

Karl Godt - I would agree and have considered this route but am unsure if the webserverpuppy has been further tweaked to not consume more than a standard version with all the services working. I learnt on Debian and find puppy strange to work with, almost foreign! I have not compiled my own programs on a linux system (esp. Puppy) yet but need to get this done in the next few weeks...the pressure is building up! If anyone could offer advice or direct me somewhere I would be most appreciative.

Thanks for the suggestion too (lighttpd) - its actually a really good one! Being Debian based (is it?) it should help me, does it also run in RAM only?

And yes I will forward your request - will let you know if anything comes up, do you also do databases? :P

I am happy that i could compile subversion-1.3.2 today because i needed SSL support . 1.4.6 had APR apache portable runtime split out and arp-utils src was missing a header . So i came across mysql while googling today but don't remember exactly anything .

I run Puppy full installed like any normal Linux distro and use frugal/ram mode for testing new releases if i have space on HDD . Should boot it frugal to compile things again now cleanly against the pure Puppy environment but am lacking the hardware .

I am on Puppy 4 series because it has glibc-2.6.1 and with glibc-2.7 there is a backwards barrier , that would cause many compiles not to run on pre--glibc-2.7 .

But it took me 1½ years to build header and pkg-config structure and am building still ..

Things would run in RAM if they are remastered into a new .iso or .sfs .

But i think it could be like

Code: Select all

mkdir /tmp_web
mount -t tmpfs none /tmp_web
cp -a /new2dir_compile_dir/* /tmp_web/
cd /tmp_web
./usr/bin/the_httpd --config=../../etc
that would probably need a chroot and the necessary files (bash,login,..)

Check /usr/bin/new2dir, /usr/bin/dir2pet :

Code: Select all

./configure
make
new2dir make install
to create a "portable" folder for compiles .

If you are used to Debian, PussyLinux may be worth a look.

Puppy Linux 4.3.1 is pretty awesome for a webserver as well. Glad I saw this post, definitely worth saving and putting up. I'd like to just install all the software and run myself. I will test this OS out though.
