James C. I believe it helps you to feel better, when you have something to test :)

Backi. I think I know what happened to you. You seem to lose /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu symlink and it changes to the real directory when you use PPM.

The fix which should prevent it, is already in dpup wheezy, through woof.

To fix your problem, do this in console, when it happens:
rm -rf /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
ln -s ./ /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu

and restart X and use pwallpaper to get wallpaper back.

Why PPM usage gets the symlink missing, is something which should not happen anymore. I wonder is it something you download, something spesific to your installation, or something which has been overlooked.

The flu still has me down but....... manual frugal install of latest Wheezy on the Athlon XP box. Everything working on initial boot. No problems noticed yet.

Pemasu,

I can't see any x264.h header in the devx. I can install the -dev package from Debian easily enough though. The x264 libs are installed but the .so lib icon looks like a static lib icon which is strange.

backi. Yeah...that is a solution. I just would like to know what made the difference...because all the fixes through woof should have been present. I need to investigate the symlink problem more.

OscarTalks. That is a bug in my DISTRO_SPECS !
yes|x264|libx264-123,libx264-dev|exe,dev.doc,nls
....heh....should be: yes|x264|libx264-123,libx264-dev|exe,dev,doc,nls
The dev files were not included due that wrong point, should have been comma, between dev and doc, heh. Fixed now. You can just download libx264-dev_0.123.2189+git35cf912-1_i386.deb, from main wheezy repo with PPM.
Will be fixed. Thanks.

About the libx264-123 strange look with Rox. Looks strange yeah in folder. Does it work. Hmmm....lets test. First I removed all libx264 files.

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i /mnt/sda5/Leffat/test.avi -an -pass 1 -vcodec libx264 -b:a BIT_RATE -threads 0 OUTPUT.mp4
ffmpeg: error while loading shared libraries: libx264.so.123: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Then I downloaded libx264-123, the strange looking.

Hi pemasu,
you alraedy helped me out solve this one in exprimo some time ago. So I know how to fix it. Just thought, since this is a forward-looking project, the issue deserved your attention. BTW, some other latest puppies don't have this annoyance, so why should wheezy.

Anyway, here's another minor one: on the first-run applet, I check firewall, set it up, but it never shows up in the tray afterwards.

Hi Pemasu,

I have managed to make a .pet of Linphone 3.5.2 for Dpup Wheezy which is only 1.5M but the forum is not allowing me to upload it at the moment. I have included the x264 codec plugin and that is working so as you say the shared x264 lib is working OK despite the strange icon.

What is the situation with ffmpeg? There appear to be 2 different Wheezy versions available in PPM. Is the one in Dpup Wheezy compiled by you from source? Can I install the older version or will this stop apps like mplayer from working properly?

The newer ffmpeg causes the compiling of Linphone to fail. CatDude discovered a patch for the Linphone source which allows the compile to complete but then some of the video codecs are missing from Linphone, but it does still work with the ones that remain.

Anikin. It is not really a bug...just the preference of size. I dont need dri driver for my comp usage at all. So...those who need it, can download the mesa-dri package and copy the needed driver from there. I havent included the tray app for firewall.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=57725

Okay...I can include the mesa-dri also not big difference for me. If this puplet goes on...I consider it. Lets have a vote, lol.

But....this is now more or less still in experimental stage....whether this puplet has future or not.

I try to get feedback...if broadcom, realtek, ralink wireless work or not...if they need the firmware to be loaded for initialization. I havent so far got any feedback from those wireless users.

OscarTalks. Yeah...ffmpeg is my own compile...august-2012. I wanted to reduce the library dependencies. As you know....debian and ubuntu throw everything in for ffmpeg and mplayer. I wanted to be libpulse free...for instance.
You can replace the ffmpeg with your choice, but there is several libs you need to replace also...like all av*.libs and the other libs listed when you launch ffmpeg. I am not sure about mplayer. I have compiled mplayer to use external ffmpeg...so the change with version might make mplayer complaining. I havent tested it ever. You can try with experimenting and report.

I remember reading that this forum has now big attachment reduction for allowed size. The forum is in somekind maintenance mode atm. I think you should ask from smokey01 account to his puppy server. You have compiled a lot useful Puppy apps. I think your work should be passport for account. I recommend you for instance.

-------------------------------------------------------
I am using Linksys AE1000 usb plugin for my wifi. The router is the DSL modem itself (Verzion).

Now the thing is (as I explained a bit earlier in this thread) I could NOT get wifi to connect either through the 'Setup-Icon' or the 'Connect-icon' from the desktop. Wifi DID connect when I r/clicked on the TRAY Internet Icon and selected 'Setup Networking' I did NOT have to install any firmware modules only type in the requested WEP code...

The funny thing is... when I do a hardinfo report on my system and check the USB devices... it shows that I don't have any USB devices...NOTHING!

The real funny thing is... this was the easiest wifi I ever setup without doing nothing except giving my WEP code. And to have everything work just great... even on reboots... not a problem one!

You mention you are not sure if this will become a regular release or not... could maybe you explain a bit more please... before a lot of people put a lot of work here for nothing!

anyway, heres my pmodemdiag...

# modinfo rt2800usb
filename: /lib/modules/3.5.2-dpup/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2800usb.ko
firmware: rt2870.bin

It looks like firmware has been used. I didnt see any firmware loading message in kernel messages though. And if you used rt2800usb with previous version, in it the firmware loading didnt work, so....
Thanks sszindian. It was the first pmodemdiag I got so far. I appreciate it.

About this experimental build and the future development. Well....all depends on how things go. First I need more confirmation that firmware loading works. Then that the build is usable. Also it depends on how much time I can use for dpup wheezy. So...everything depends on many things. Lol.

I have already found several things which need fixing and has been fixed in woof level already. Like dconf framework so that gnome-mplayer remembers settings.

Wheezy

#132 Post by sszindian »

'Thanks for the come-back pemasu!'

I understand your issues and will continue with Wheezy as long as you feel it's worth it... personally... I really do believe it is, as I've mentioned, I try a lot of various Puppy builds and after trying the first Wheezy I was very impresses and still am... there is NO Puppy (as nice as some are) that performs like this one does!

Yes, I would say the firmware is loading as necessary (at least for my config., and in the past this has been a real headache setting the wifi up.)

A few minor issues I've found thus far:

1. pupRadio/pupTelly streaming media- When you go to the NASA channel, it keep bouncing back and forth between the video and the pupTelly main menu - about every 5 to 10 seconds.

2. pwidgets 2.4.1- after doing an Internet session, the 'clock' disappears from the desktop. A reload of pwidgets corrects this but it keeps happening.

'Keep on it baby... you're doing just fine!

Hi Pemasu,

Yes, when I talk about ffmpeg really the most important thing is the libav*.so shared libs which are produced as part of the whole package if you compile ffmpeg from source. Debian seems to split these things up and talk about each lib as a separate "package".

Anyway I just did a quick pfix=ram test, played a downloaded video in Gnome-mplayer and all OK as expected but then if I install fmpeg (which also brings in the libav*.so libs etc) from PPM then Gnome-mplayer stops working. My Linphone stops too. Console reports problems with those libs.

The official package seems to be something like version 0.8.5 and so there may be a problem that any apps compiled against your newer ffmpeg will stop working if anyone installs anything from the Debian repos in PPM which brings in those older libs as dependencies. Since quite a lot of apps do depend on ffmpeg I wonder if this is a potential problem or am I mistaken here?

I did download ffmpeg-1.0.1 from multimedia repo and mplayer - gnome-mplayer played video.
Of course there is problems when there is 2 different ffmpeg versions available and third home brewed installed. But...I have had this kind arrangement in dpup exprimos all the time. And I have compiled ffmepg - mplayer - gnome-mplayer myself all the time. So this is not new thing.

I have made the report-system version 2.9 compatible with Exprimo
and Wheezy.

The problem was incompatibility with command

Code: Select all

lsusb -v
which works in most distros by Barry Kauler.

Hi pemasu

Apologies that I've been rather busy the last couple of days....

Just to confirm that the wl driver is loaded correctly for my b43 wifi and then if I blacklist wl and reboot the b43 driver and associated firmware is also correctly loaded.

The dmesg output when the b43 driver is loaded:

I have had the following errors when moving files from one directory to another with rox-filer:

Dpup Wheezy 5.3.2.3 has been uploaded

It consists of bug fixes and has been built with latest woof. The previous build was created with woof in the middle of large scripts updates and some bugs had been found. Also bacon was broken...or better hug.so was not compliant any more. I have added dconf framework so the relying applications....like gnome-mplayer... remember now settings. Libx264-dev should be now in devx sfs. Rox right clicks has been updated by the work by don570. Couple of missing icons has been added also.

Peebee. Thank you of the feedback ! Your test should be the final confirmation that firmware loading from puppy all-firmware location works. And that also Rerwin`s logistic files works.

Code: Select all

[ 162.160042] b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 666.2 (2011-02-23 01:15:07)

That is about nicest thing I have read today. Really great.

About Rox-Filer bug. That needs other reports with latest Dpup Wheezy. As I told previous woof was not fully ok.
I dont have any problems or error messages with Rox move operations.

Wheezy-5.3.2.3

#139 Post by sszindian »

5.3.2.3

Fresh pfx=ram... all went well, wifi installed without a hitch.

shutdown...

Then... Did an update to the previous 5.3.2.2 save file... again all wet well except lost a few icons of personal stuff that had to be reinstalled and the background picture.

Foxfire had a new update to 18.02 from 18.01... let that install and on a reload of FF flashplayer was gone? Had to reinstall the latest version from menu>network and youtube and some other places that require flash worked fine.

Issue with NASA TV cutting in and out... still there.

One thing I do find (and not just with Wheezy)... 'The Fonts' in the overall program (not the pinstall stuff) are just too d*m thin and small for my old eyes... is there a way we can get them to look like they do in say... Exprimo-3.6.2 ???
