Transmission BitTorrent client 2.60 compiled from source in Dpup Wheezy 3.5.2.11
There is a version in the Debian repo but it is older and drags in more unneeded bloat. Version 2.60 is the last version that works with GTK2. Anything later requires GTK3 and dependencies. I am no expert on torrenting but it seems to work with both .torrent files and magnet links.

Also just wanted to mention, for Wheezy users who have not seen this in the other thread, Dillo browser 3.0.3 which is compiled from source and newer than the one in the Debian repo. More details here:-

Important fix of security vulnerability (so they say).
I compiled OpenSSL Version 1.0.1g from source with:-
Code:
./config --prefix=/usr --openssldir=/etc/ssl shared

in Dpup Wheezy 3.5.2.11 and have uploaded the main and DEV .pet packages to:-
http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks
I guess Debian will release a package soon but I couldn't find one yet.
Meantime, feel free to try this one and report any findings.
MD5 checksums:-
openssl-1.0.1g-wheezy.pet = f5d8d80b4c2b4dc7a2c822fc58a506f4
openssl_DEV-1.0.1g-wheezy.pet = 49146ab5d03897f2dbd37d9c54f9e434

I installed successfully both of them in Precise Puppy 5.6.11 and in Dpup Wheezy 3.5.2.8.

Code:
# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1g 7 Apr 2014

Code:
# openssl version -b
built on: Wed Apr  9 22:06:13 BST 2014

Many thanks for the packages and also for keeping this tread alive.

For security purposes it would be appreciated if you add MD5 checksums of the packages.

The movement that Ubuntu-based distribution changes to the Debian base is seen.
Ubuntu has intense evolution, and abnormality may occur by version up with the old model.
Debian does not force version update in comparison with it.
I think that this applies to environment using Puppy.
Because there was the matter of OpenSSL, I install and try Dpup Wheezy.

  • The Japanese support package was applicable to normalcy.
  • Puppy Package Manager fails in update. It is necessary to delete the item of deb-multimedia.org form ~/.package/DISTRO_COMPAT_REPOS to be improved.
  • The problem of OpenSSL can use the method to be improved with Debian package. Please apply a package of the i386:

https://packages.debian.org/en/wheezy/i386/openssl/download
https://packages.debian.org/en/wheezy/i386/libssl1.0.0/download

This is careful about the things that come to support a patch, not the latest edition
Correspondence of OpenSSL is a command:
Code:
# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013
# openssl version -b
built on: Tue Apr  8 10:05:11 UTC 2014

  • The package of Chromium:

https://packages.debian.org/en/wheezy/i386/chromium/download
https://packages.debian.org/en/wheezy/i386/libspeechd2/download
https://packages.debian.org/en/wheezy/all/chromium-l10n/download (Language Files)

Hi just found dpup wheezy its is a good os.

I have 2 problems one being firefox other being downloading from repos.

FIREFOX
firefox wont run. I ran it in terminal and got a Bus Error, whatever that is.
i am not sure what I can do
my system specks are as follows.

Puppy Setup: Frugal install on hdd with 1gb save.
Device: HP Compaq nx9000
CPU: Mobile Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz
RAM: 448MB (assume actual 512mb)
Graphics: Advanced Mir=cro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS200 [Radeon IGP330M/340M/350M

If having low ram is the issue i can upgrade to 1 or 2gb later.

on another note i have a version of firefox that runs by itself and does not need compiling it runs from its own folder outside the save file. Now I tested that and it runs no problem. so i wonder why the default one has problems.
also running firefox from other puppy os on my flash drive works ok.

PPM
the PPM updates ok the first time but i cant download apps. i tried to download sylpheed for my mail app but when downloading extra dependences I get the error they are not found in the repositories. i tried Pidgin, and several other apps and got the same result.

just want to query why. i updated ppm once and have internet setup so i dont understand.

Because Firefox is included in Dpup Wheezy by default,
Overwrite of the packages is the cause of the malfunction.
Please uninstall from Puppy Package Magener if you installed Firefox with .deb package.

An automatic update function is included in Firefox which is in Dpup Wheezy:

i dont think you get what was sayng. i was talking about the default firefox in puppy causing the fault and not working so i can't use it.

now the other version is a precompiled package that can run directly from its own folder, on any os, without needing to be installed. and it works.

there is no firefox in the dpup repos to install as debian comes with iceweasel an unbranded version of firefox created for debian.

also did you mis that i said that ppm does not work properly either.

PostPosted: Tue 22 Apr 2014, 05:35    Post subject: Musescore-1.3

Hi,
here are links to get Musescore-1.3 running on wheezy-3.5.2.11:
(and might be on aother Puppies ...):

i've found Musescore-1.3 binary package from ArchLinux
which seems running OOTB on wheezy-3.5.2.11;
download here:
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/archlinux/community/os/i686/musescore-1.3-6-i686.pkg.tar.xz
+needs the /usr/lib/qt4/plugins/ stuffs
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/archlinux/extra/os/i686/qtscriptgenerator-0.2.0-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz

It also needs Qt-4.6 or above (i.e. Qt-4.8.2 from pemasu's repo here:)
http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages-upup/

It could even open and play some midi files.

Enjoy !
Cheers
Charlie

ps: if someone would want to get a try to compile it, here are some informations about the unsuccessfull compiling process i experienced.
I have downloaded the dependencies all from debian wheezy repo.
Compilation took place in /mnt/home to have enough space.
Unsuccesfull attempt for compilation:
i've tried to compile SourceForge's Musescore-1.3's .tar.bz2 source;
it stops at 84% compiling process upon linking CXX shared library libqtscript_gui.so;
i miss expertise to fix the errors which are reported as follows (abstract): there is no explicit message about missing dependencies
Quote:

then \
mkdir build; \
cd build; \
cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RELEASE \

Dpup Wheezy 3.5.2.11 has Gnome-Mplayer 1.0.7 which works fine, I have had no problems with it, but I decided to try compiling the latest version which is 1.0.9b

I am attaching the ChangeLog if you want to see what has been changed in the later version. Remove (by renaming) the fake .gz extension off the end of the file name after downloading before you open it to read it.

All seems quick and easy to do. I compiled it with the gmtk-1.0.9 dependency linked statically so shared libraries are not needed. The older version gmtk shared libs will be ignored. I don't think they are used for anything else so could be removed in fact.

If anyone wants to try it out:-

Thank you.

It works fine in Dpup Wheezy 3.5.2.8 too.

I'm using it as default audio and media player.
