[Discontinued] RazorQt, KDE 4.9

Hello Puppy community !
After some WM, i wanted to try a Qt desktop like KDE.

I propose today a little novelty in Qt for Puppy, Razor-Qt 4.1 & KDE 4.9 in one ISO, two Qt desktops...

For the first, Razor-Qt 4.1, latest version :
Image
Razor-qt is a lightweight, Qt-based free software desktop environment for the X Window System. Unlike the KDE desktop environment which is also based on Qt, Razor-qt usually performs well even when used in computers with older hardware.

Razor-qt is still in the early stages of development.[1] As of February 2012 the environment includes a panel viewer and switcher, a desktop, an application launcher, a settings center, and sessions. These components can be enabled or disabled by the user.[2]

Razor-qt works with any modern X window manager such as Openbox, fvwm2, or KWin.
Kwin is already installed, but you can install & use Openbox instead.

For the second, KDE 4.9, latest version ( 1 august 2012 ) :

It doesn't need a presentation I think  .

________________________________________________________

Specifications :
-Based on Precise.
-KDE 4.9 ( latest KDE tools, konsole, dolphin... )
-Razor-Qt 4.1 with Kwin.
-Qt 4.8.2
-448mo :x :( because of Qt with 157mo only for it.
-Oxygen themed
-Puppy Menu !

Issues /!\ /!\ :
-Icons ! Many icons are absent ( executable.xpm )...
-KDE clock absent
-You'll need to do a click, to achieve KDE & Razor startup, I think it's a xinitrc bug.
-No drives on the left of Dolphin, use Pmount.
-No pictures preview in Dolphin
-Kget doesn't work.

I'll fight them 0---(========- 8)

________________________________________________________

Razor-Qt is a relatively recent project, it is not perfect yet ...
For exemple, to change a Razor theme, you need to edit ~/.razor/conf and themes are in /usr/share/razor/themes.

Pas de chance / No luck , Jejy69 !

On the computer I tried it on, I only have a dual-layer DVD (for booting) and a very fast external e-sata 1 Tb drive. Is it my harware or the Puppy?

Bonjour Musher0 !

I'm sorry, but I don't know what we can do for it... :?
Martin C seems to start.

I put here MD5, maybe the ISO is corrupted... :?

the pmount app worked for drive access here.

The system, as delivered, works quite well, very fast.
I think the ubuntu entrails are a letdown, xorg refuses
to use the native 1280x1024 (same story on the new Macpup)
that works fine in Puppy Studio 1337, 3.3, dpup, bodhi etc etc

Quite a few apps that install normally in other puppies,
have missing dependencies in these (newer?) ubuntu repositories.

Nice to have a new KDE based distro, the screen is offset about
a dozen pixels to the left, probably another buntu hidden feature.

Hello !

You must use Pmount to access to yours partitions. :?

I'm not crazy about this... Here, Qt and KDE are really weighty... And with some bugs. :(

qt/kde new release bugs will probably get fixed in a month or two, and you
can do another iso, with a more stable basis,
its a good one to keep working on. 8)

Bravo, j'espère qu'elle va marcher. Et marcher mieux que Macpup 529.
Precise 5.2.60 runs perfectly. I hope Razor will not garble it. At first glance, it's prodigious. What a desktop !
Razor-Qt soon stopped.
Married with LXDE >>> LXQT.

Believe me Pelo - it is!! 8) I've been enjoying it myself very much, along with Jejy's build of KDE-4.9 desktop.

However, my heart still belongs to Jejy's build of Mate on Precise-Pup. That one I have installed fully to my hard drive while all his others ( except his XFCE which I've yet to try ) are installed frugally.

He is truly a GENIUS when it comes to compiling these desktop environments and his Razor one is the very first that I've had to work flawlessly upon my computer. Vive Jejy!!! :D

Amicalement/Cheers,

Precise est très bien, je n'ai pas essayé le costume LXDE, le KDE est très joli.

Mais l'intérieur de la boutique est très classique.

la tenue que je préfère c'est la XFce.

Bonne journée.

Hi Jejy69,
I'm a big admirer of your work with these windows managers, though I declare that I simply haven't had the time to test any :( So please feel free to dismiss my queries: Trinity was recently updated, do you think that it might provide a lighter alternative to KDE4.9 http://www.trinitydesktop.org/? Could Trinity be made into an updated SFS perhaps?
Thanks

Desktop KDE : and behind desktop, the oldies apps.

Nothing new inside KDE : keep the old series KDE 3.5, it's enough.
