Topic Attachments Type/Size Limits Subject description: Just what are the limits? |
|
What are the limits for attachments to a topic/posting to the forum?
If you go to Allowed Extensions and Sizes
I get this info page.
I see info on type of attachments, but this size info tells me nothing.
The FAQ at top of forum is no help. It talks about stuff in general terms.
My best guess after posted responses:
| Quote: | I guess the answer to the question is this-
Any size you want to make it!
My common sense tells me to use some forum manners/etiquette and use these guides as a general rule to follow.
Images:
To be visible in post or topic-
No wider than 600
No higher than is absolutely needed to see image in a usable way.
Height really depends on type of image. The posted images, further in this topic, give good example of too much!
File size:
0 to 1MB
Common sense dictates that you should try to limit an attached file to less than 1MB.
This data is stored on a forum server and the forum has to pay for the storage used. In general the forum probably has an allocated amount of data storage space, that has been paid for, but if it needs more, there is an added cost.

For a image to show in topic/post :
Width max limit is 600.
What about height limit?

I don't know the answer to either of those questions. It might be a day or so before I can take time to look for the answers.

Thanks James C and 666philb.
Would think there would be some kind of official statement from the forum administrator about this.
You would think the forum Allowed Extensions and Sizes info web page would have this information. As shown by my earlier image of that, it does not provide info on size.

L18L,
Good examples of overkill in posting an image.
Sure seems to me there would be some kind of official size limit.
Such a simple question.
Sure seems to have no simple answer.
I know good forum manners/etiquette should prevent someone from attaching too large a file.
(uses up a lot of forum server storage).
Your image examples sure show how much usable posting space you can use up by not considering image size.

Actually the filesizes of those two images are very small. It's the rendering program that makes them appear big.
