This is the latest Java update for Puppy Linux in PET format. I thought that would be very useful for those who have a full install of Puppy and can't make use of the SFS version as in my case. I tested it today with Firefox (15.0) and Google Chrome (20.0xxx). It should work with Seamonkey, too.

Notes: Remove previous versions of Java (or unload any SFS files before installing this update.

thats awesome to have java dk 7 on this little OS.though late,it is amazing!

There was an instance that I had rad about where a java update had been corrupted and was installing malware that had the capability of allowing installation of other nasties as well as installing a rootkit on MS pcs.
I do not think it effects linux, but you can never tell.

Sadly, this is a vulnerability in Java itself. If this file is the official JRE, it's going to have the same vulnerabilities. The problem isn't with the operating system (afaik.)
Perhaps someone will release a dotpet of the latest JRE (where they supposedly fixed the security hole)

I see this other thread that has a shell script for updating Java JRE to latest version.


Musher0 has created a shell script file to download, Install, and setup PATHS for Java. The shell script is in a zip file to download. Makes the process easy for you. Recommended by GCMartin, too.

Java JRE is up to 1.7U25 as of June 24, 2013. file jre-7u25-linux-i586.tar.gz
