rightclick_split_file-1.4.pet - split an ISO into chunks
Edit: I updated the app to make the rightclick menu show up
in more file types such as the various archive types.
Also script is now executable.
version 1.6 will give a warning when running the scrip
if chunks aren't inside the folder
RSH has written a very nice and useful script to split an ISO
into smaller chunks .
Instructions: Simple to use after installation of pet.
Just right click on a large archive or ISO. Select 'Split file'
A folder is created with the chunks and an executable script
to rebuild the chunks back to the original.
That's it.
This will allow the people creating puppies to post them on
the murga forum using services such as datafilehost.com etc.
These services are free but have file size limits.
The instructions to put the chunks back together are in
a script file inside the folder that is created, but
it is easier to just run the script in a terminal( launched from the folder)
and the chunks will rebuilt automatically.
Here's an example....
In the picture below I have rebuilt the 3 chunks called
OS8.img.gz.part-aa
OS8.img.gz.part-ab
OS8.img.gz.part-ac
using the script (included in folder) to recreate the file
created by Barry Kauler's Pudd --> OS8.img.gz
Then I ran a decompression app 'pupzip' to
obtain an Apple OS 8 install CD ---> OS8.img

Thank you don570 for bringing this one to the English forum.
Just two questions:
Isn't it already added to your right-click-tools?
Maybe you have tested any older version?
I can not remember correctly if this has been as described in some older versions - but 1.3 creates automatically a script at directory of split files. One just needs to click this script and it rebuilds the original file at directory of split files.
Unfortunately it has still German messages, so i might have to refine this.
EDIT: Checked for it: NO it hasn't German messages - it has locals for EN & DE!

new version 1.4
new version 1.4
I made a couple of small changes to update the package to version 1.4
1) script is now executable
2) English rather than German is used in one obscure translation
3) I updated the app to make the right-click menu show up
in more file types such as the various archive types.
This was needed to be compatible with Barry Kauler's Pudd
which uses compression of image.
I'll put this in my right clicks package.

I like that!
Usually it's me, who uses scripts or parts of scripts or suggestions of different developers/programmers/users to work on (and to learn as well) - but this time it's right the other way.
This gives to me a little bit feeling like honored!
Thank you very much, don570.
Donloaded already...
