SalukiNOP

#1 Post by gray »

Nearly Office Pup is an XFCE based puplet, so called because it is a no frills pup without office apps. The idea being that you install to USB pendrive and add an SFS file of the office package.

This release is based on Saluki - hence Saluki NOP!

Jemima has done a great job with Saluki - leaving me with little to do to turn it into a NOP.

Just removed midori, abiword, gnumeric etc and added Opera web browser.

Not 100% sure about the desktop drive icon system - may return to my simple method for Precise NOP.

get SalukiNOP-023r2.iso (121 Mb) from http://download.tuxfamily.org/nop

test of SalukiNOP

#2 Post by Marv »

My first look at SalukiNOP is at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 8&start=86

Thanks to Henry for the pointer. Don't know why this differed from Saluki023 wrt the ipw2200 drivers but following the Wheezey thread, a quick fix worked. Other than that, flawless so far. I'll test CUPS and printing to my HP4500 all-in-one later but I have an SFS I built for Saluki so don't anticipate any problems.

An aside on drive mounting.. Between the mount and unmount capabilities now in Thunar and the Xfce4 drive mount utility easily added to a panel, the desktop drive icons seem redundant and clumsy (my 0.02 only).

Thanks once again Gray :D
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

I was just going to report the same problem with the same driver. Strange, it works okay in the full version. I need to go and find the Wheezey thread.. :?

I did a manual frugal install to a flashdrive.
I tracked down the devx and kernel source sfs and installed the nvidia
driver.

Flashplayer kept crashing in Opera so I installed Firefox 15.01 from
ppm and it's working better so far.

Tote, my quick fix is outlined in my firstlook post linked above. See if the firmware copy outlined works for you.

Clock font color

#7 Post by Marv »

The DateTime panel plugin doesn't seem to use Pango markup any more and I so far I haven't been able to change the font color in it. Have poked a bit at DateTime.rc but so far no luck. Xfce Clock is still available as a panel plug-in, has no calender, but does use Pango markup in the custom string. As an example, the custom string I use is:
<span font="DejaVu Sans Bold,14" color="#ffffff">%I:%M %p</span>
Covered somewhere in the Saluki thread but might save someones time if here?

Hi gray

Fantastic Puppy (as usual) all seems to be working well on my 10yr old Acer laptop.

Just using as is for the moment and will add some packages later.

Very pleased to have Opera as the browser.

Thanks again for all you do - very best regards - Ray

Network Browse from Thunar

#13 Post by stifiling »

I'm using SalukiNOP. Wanted to say 'superb' job. I've noticed though that 'Network' in Thunar doesn't appear to work for browsing samba shares. Still have to use pnethood or a similar tool. I attached a pet in the Saluki thread to get it working. Here's the link.

puppy remaster app is missing, more improvements needed

#14 Post by mistfire »

I try Saluki on my NEO BASIC bc2ew-102. I noticed that there the graphic motion is slow, the screen resolution cannot set to its native resolution (always at 800x600 although xorg sees that is 1024x600 resolution) , no sound, and also Puppy remaster app is missing. please integrate gvfs-smb on saluki NOP so there is no need for pnethood and more user friendly on networking.

SPECS:

Processor: Intel Atom N2600 1.60 GHz, 1 MB Cache
Memory: 2GB DDR3
Screen Property: 10.1" LED Display (1024x600)
Video System: Intel GMA 3600
Hard Drive: 320GB
LAN: Gigabit 10/100/1000 Mbps
WLAN: 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 3.0
Peripheral System: 3 port x USB 2.0
1.3 MP Webcam
Power 3-cell Li-ion battery

Puppy for Atom, where?

#15 Post by dennis-slacko531 »

Hi (mistfire), I noticed your CPU is Atom and I've been searching for a Puppy to run on a relative's netbook. It's sad but my bro keeps trying M$'s latest & 'waitest'... I keep promising to set him up with a pen/puppy. His netbook is about 3 1/2 years old, don't have the exact specs on hand.

I found your Neo here. http://neo.com.ph/products/basic-series.

@dennis-slacko531 i tried NOP 4.3.1 on my netbook last week, the performance was faster than saluki NOP, it really runs smoothly and the sound works. I wonder why it is faster than saluki NOP? but still the display resolution was in 800x600.

Mistfire makes X-Slacko Slim

#18 Post by Pelo »

Mistfire makes X-Slacko Slim available for everybody, with Saluki and Carolina packages in the PPM? Try it !
azrielle is happy, with this nice Slim Puppy !
"xslacko-slim-082816 (stripped down XFCE, VERY lightweight, yet still surprisingly functional; Midori web browser)", he says
Newer Kernel than Saluki, will run on newest laptops.
But Saluki is perfect on my old laptop. they marry together well (Acer Aspire 1640 born 2004)
