Dull video with saved 2fs [Solved]

#1 Post by RickGT351 »

I have tried using the xorg wizard to change the quality but keep getting dull video. I tried making a new sfs and its video quality is ok.
The old 2fs has quite a lot of added packages so it would be a shame to have to trash it.
Any ideas?

Which Puppy? What .sfs file are you talking about? What do you mean by "dull" video?

Using xorgwizard, are you setting to xvesa or xorg?
In xorg, what is the colour depth, 16 or 24bit?
Do you have the correct driver for your video card?

By dull video I mean what I see on the screen in terms of background and icons or pages is all dull as if the brightness had been turned down. I'm using Lupu 5.25. When I use the saved sfs and run the xorg wizard using xorg and probe. it suggests the same settings I am already using. :?:

I don't know if this would be helpful, but when I use Xorg, I don't like the settings it offers me. There's an option at the bottom that says "More"--that's what I select, and it brings up another menu that provides me with the settings I want.

I took some photos of the desktop and a write window with an old saved 528.2fs and the 2nd 2 are a fresh one off the cd. It does the same with 5.25 as well http://imgur.com/a/JwKTM Hopefully some one can help me solve this mystery

To me the mystery is the complaint itself. If SFS is a lossless compression, the complaint is not where you think it is.

If SFS is lossy compression, maybe none of us should use it, except with the understanding that the extracted file is degraded from the original. I don't think this is the case.

When I posted this initially I got 2fs and sfs mixed up. Anyway if I open an old puppy 2fs file the screen is grey and hard to read. Perfectly fine if I load it off the dvd or use a fresh 2fs

To me this looks very much like the 16bit color depth problem. You call it dull, I would say dull and green.

This happens with my video card, xorg recommends

1024x768x16 - but this gives me dull green

selecting

1024x768x24 - gets correct color

----

Can you confirm the exact video mode you are choosing?

----

In a way this is a bug, as X should be able to display 16bit color depth correctly (and there by use less resources).

Then there is some additional package installed that is not 100% compatible with your current xorg ie Xorg_High_Lucid.pet with Mesa and or GLU and that stuff.
