At the prompt type xorwizard
You may have to do this twice. Choose Xorg or Vesa.
When you return to the prompt type xwin
and you should be good to go. (I think).

Are you booting off the Live CD? Or have you done some kind of installation procedure? How did you do it?

Your hardware may be too old for Slacko.
It is designed for stuff around 5years old or newer.
Could be trying to use a resolution setting that is out of limits for graphics hardware or a driver issue.
When you run Xorgwizard make sure to select Vesa driver.
Select a resolution setting you know should work.
Finish Xorgwizard.
At prompt enter xwin.
If still fails do a reboot by entering reboot.
Sometimes you have to reboot to get Xorgwizard changes to work.
There is always the chance that the installation to the CD is bad or the Slacko.iso file you downloaded was a bad download.

I have tried the reboot and still nothing I know the disk is good because I istalled it on a Toshiba that I am on now. I have tried several different distros ( salix, crunchbang, PCLinux, and several lite versions) and to no avail not shure where to turn now.

Try Wary (Puppy)
You can download Wary iso file from here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/wary-5.3/
Wary is the Puppy version for older hardware.
