A new Wakepup2

#1 Post by Crash »

Attached is a new Wakepup2 pet file. It has been modified to run on all versions
of Puppy Linux. The previous versions were having trouble on the latest versions of Puppy.

The floppy image is based on wakepup2-20080927. Below is an excerpt from the README.TXT
file that describes the differences. I am open to any comments, suggestions,
corrections, etc.

readme.txt revisions - August 12, 2012 by Crash

This version of Wakepup2 introduces Grub4DOS as an option. This allows
booting into NTFS partitions, which is very helpful for "modern" computers.
Grub4DOS can also boot to ext2 or ext3 file systems.

In order to make room for Grub4DOS, some capabilities have been removed.
Backpack support is no longer provided, nor is Zip drive support. The
Archive zip file has also been removed.

Grub4DOS now replaces Backpack as option 3 in the first menu.

Some Grub4DOS notes:

A sample MENU.LST is provided. The first entry contains a typical Puppy
Linux boot command sequence. If you already have your own MENU.LST on your
hard drive, simply rename the one on the floppy to something else and Grub
will find the one on your hard drive.

If you need to modify MENU.LST on the floppy, simply exit to the DOS prompt
on initial bootup by selecting option 9 on the first menu. When the DOS
prompt appears, you can type "EDIT MENU.LST" to invoke the FreeDOS Editor.
After you finish the edit, you can simply type "grub" at the command line
to invoke Grub4DOS.

Additional revision (1 of 3):

In the first menu, Option 8, "Exit to FreeDOS (w/CD-ROM,HD,USB,USB-CD)" is
removed and replaced by an option to continue with the boot sequence but
with no drivers loaded. For modern computers, this may be the most used
option. For instance, most modern computers will boot directly to a USB
thumb drive without the need to load any USB drivers.

Additional revision (2 of 3):

Zip support is deleted from option 7 in the first menu. Option 7 is no
longer considered "Experimental".

Additional revision (3 of 3):

The "Select Puppy2 pfix Boot Option" menu adds a seventh option:

7. pfix=fsck Filesystem check

This allows a filesystem check at bootup.

If you still want these features (without Grub4DOS), click here and scroll down.

New .pet for pakt's original WakePup2, with a few small changes, is here.

Modified AUTOEXEC.BAT files for USB keyboard are here.
(These are for use with pakt's original WakePup2.)

New .pet for pakt's special-version WakePup2, for booting Puppy from USB via PCMCIA USB2 adapter, is here.

Also, somewhat related:

Be sure to prepare and use your floppy disk with the same drive.
If you have any problems, start with a low-level format:
Menu / System / Format floppy disk

It's pretty common for floppy drives to have slightly misaligned heads.
So a disk prepared with one drive might not work with another.
(Error messages are your most obvious clue.)
