puppy linux wary 5.3 foreign characters not displaying right

hi, new to linux but just installed puppy linux wary 5.3 on my old laptop since it was lagging while playing flash video in windows xp. no longer having lagging issues in puppy linux with flash video, but when i go to websites with foreign characters like chinese for example they are displayed in weird boxes. the browser is the seamonkey browser that came with install. anyone know a solution to solve this problem? thanks, ronetone |

hi ronetone I believe you edit seamonkey prefs (on the menu bar Edit->Preferences .. Appearance, Fonts) to "Allow documents to use other fonts", tick that box and things should unweird (provided you have fonts for CJK in your pup if I recall such things correctly). Hmm, think the newer pups with seamonkey have a decent local help for basics. It generally takes awhile to make any browser fit your personal browsing prefs. If that helps, you're very welcome (and a <3y welcome to the pldf  )

For additional information on this issue, I think Barry K's blog entry for September 24, 2012 (yesterday) may be relevant here: http://bkhome.org/blog/ See this Linux Wiki page over here for information on installing a chinese character set font package in Puppy. Warning: I have not tested this in Wary Puppy... For anyone interested in doing some testing, consider installing the font package in --> /usr/local/share/fonts path. Note that one would have to create the fonts directory as it is not in Puppy by default. Monsie _________________ My username is pronounced: "mun-see". You don't need to download a different version of Puppy.
