Beta FTP Server problem

#1 Post by radiodaze »

Hi

I tried to set up the beta FTP server in Puppy 1.09. Although a newbie to Linux I think I understand the FTP concept quite well. When I tried to set up anonymous user the next dialog calls for a password - yet, when I type, the keyboard does not seem to respond to the input. I had to give up. Any ideas?

I've never experienced it.

And for you, being knowledgeable of computers, my next comment may seem obvious, I'll give it a shot:

When typing the password it does not show it. You just type and press enter. Then reenter the password and press enter.

It won't show the password you are typing.

By default the passwd program doesn't show the characters you are typing while entering a new password. The betaftpd-cc uses the passwd utility as part of the process of setting up anonymous ftp, so it follows that the characters are not displayed on screen as you type. This is actually not a bug but a security feature. Just go ahead and type your new password, and then it will prompt you to retype it to make sure you didn't make any typos.
