PartedMagic on test bench at home

#347 Post by Pelo »

PartedMagic on test bench at home. No MTpaint, i cannot do whithout this app. Downloaded from sourceforge debian package.
I just had to add libjasper and link to so4 libtiff
and MTpaint opened on my desktop.
That is a feed back, no action required.
Happy new year to photographics lovers, and all others, of course.

config issue?

#349 Post by sszindian »

installing- gtklp_1.3.1-0.1_amd64.deb - in the new Slacko64-6.9.6.4 mtpaint 3.49.12 does get mtpaint to 'print' however the 'config setup' for the print doesn't seem to respond to commands..eg,, tried placing a small clipart in the left/hand upper part of the image-setup, it still prints a FULL-PAGE graphic? yes... I saved my setup prior to printing!

The default 'kprint %f' is WAY to large to install besides many dependencies are missing.

Have you reduced the number of colors in your palette,
or are you saving the jpeg with a low quality setting??

What about eraser ?
By a press of X key the user obtains the background color (usually black).
Erase the bright colors with that.

However if you want a transparent area you first must first set a transparent color
(which is set in lower part of dock or save the layer with a color set as the transparent color)

Then you paint with that color.

I believe a change was made a couple of versions ago so that the lowest layer
is treated as a regular layer.

One of the nags I've had with mtpaint is that text can be aliased, but shapes (oval/circle esspecially) cannot be aliased. In the old days M$paint was good at drawing aliased shapes of various thickness (user-defined GUI). In some drawings, I miss the ability to alias the shape. For near-circles I can simply use a text o or O.

Any way to migrate the alias function to the select [] O outlines?

A workaround...

Make the shape (a circle or a line) on a separate layer
and then do a small gaussian blur on that layer.

You must set a transparent color first. Usually I do this in dock by setting the
color 0 i.e. black as the transparent color.

When you save as a GIF or PNG this transparent color is saved with the image.

I explain here.

just a small test of your ideas don. I did a soften first, then small gaussian, and finalized with a gamma correct. Saved as png compression=8.

Thanks much for the ideas.

Eraser

#362 Post by mikeslr »

Hi g/g, hamoudoudou,

Edit: Sorry Guys, I was thinking gimp when I wrote the following.

Eraser is one of the 'paint tools' --same panel as paint-brush, airbrush, etc. Looks like a pink cube. As far as I know, to 'erase with transparency' actually requires:

1. open desired image.
2. Click New, Select "Advanced Options", Click 'Down-Arrow' next to "Fill With Background Color', Select "Transparency", Click OK.
3. On the Original Image, from the Paint-tool panel, select one of the 'Area Selection" tools, such as 'Rectangle Select'. Use it to Select the entire or a part of the original image. Select Copy.
4. In the New Image, Select paste. Save the New Image [under a new name]. Close the old image.
5. When you erase something from the new image, all that is left is the transparent background.

Erasing has to be done before adding new layers.

I'd be pleased to learn if there was an easier way.
