The fglrx module (amd-14.12 ... for linux) installed the video part , but the audio did not installed at all...
The install_log file from /usr/share/ati/ suggested to run in terminal the file make_install.sh from /lib/modules/fglrx/ , which I did - it gave also some warnings ; I did paste them in a second log file . As stated before , the video quality was very good . AMD Catalyst Control Centre was in Control Panel but did not launch .
I ran the executable module directly , clicking on it . When I tried to make it run from prompt - outside X - it warned twice that it found glibc 2.1 . I read on AMD site that it needs glibc 2.2 .

How puzzling. I don't think any of those warnings constitutes an error, so it looks like the driver did install cleanly. You might want to check alsamixer and see if the HDMI output is muted. I seem to remember that happening quite frequently to me.

As for the Catalyst Control Centre, what are the errors when you attempt to launch it from a terminal?

Ahh yes, I see. Original Carolina's glibc is too old. Geoff knows a few ways to trick programs into using the needed glibc version in a different location. I don't suppose you're familiar with the trick Gobbi? Hmm, what situation. Glibc's too old in the original Carolina and kernel's too new in Vanguard.

I suppose you could try update glibc in original Carolina with the pets here if you'd like to be adventurous.

No , I'm not
battleshooter wrote: I suppose you could try update glibc in original Carolina with the pets here if you'd like to be adventurous.
I'll surely try ; does the order to install those pets matters ?

In the mean time I tried something else : In my vlina folder I also keep Chromium 39 and lib6+libstdc6-4.9.2.pet from @kost@s's thread .
So when I saw the error amdcccle gave in the terminal , I installed again Catalyst but first I also installed lib6+libstdc6-4.9.2.pet . In the end I have amdcccle working :!:
The sound through HDMI is still missing but using my monitor through DVI I got analog sound in speakers . I'm really glad

Doing the remaster , however I missed something in the /etc/X11/xconf... files because the remaster starts with vesa module and only after I get out of X to prompt and do aticonfig --initial I get fglrx working ...
I never needed this but I should put a line in rc.sysinit or rc.services in /etc/rc.d/ , but I don't remember where exactly ...

More surprises from you. I wouldn't have thought that would work.

That's weird, I would have thought you didn't need to initialize every time, but if that's what works for you, I think /etc/rc.d/rc.local is early enough. rc.local gets called in rc.sysinit, so it's basically the same as putting it in rc.sysinit, but neater.

Maybe the issue is the xorg.conf created by aticonfig --initial isn't being transferred over with the remaster?

You are right about this , I choose not to make the remaster for my PC only . I run Fatdog on other computers with AMD graphics and the driver works on all of them . In the end I edited a little , some xorg.conf files and I could make a remaster that boots directly on desktop with fglrx . Still no HDMI sound . But it's fine anyway . I could add Compiz .
It goes this way only on the monitor where I made the remaster . To make it work on the other one - I delete those xorg.conf files bounded to the previous monitor and I have to exit to prompt and type :

#aticonfig --initial
#aticonfig --enable-monitor=auto
#aticonfig --swap-monitor
#xwin

After this four commands , fglrx driver works on the monitor . The complainings about the missing or not connected monitor are harmless ...

I tried those pets for glibc 2.20 and it also worked . I could also install the AMD driver . But it doesn't add HDMI sound , so I'm OK with some MB less ... Thank you for the effort anyway :!:

Get Full Path Thunar right-click

#1671 Post by elroy »

This was inspired by using the xdelta gui. I couldn't figure out the drag n drop wile using it with Thunar, and I tired of having to copy/paste text from the "Show Full Path" right click in Thunar. So I decided to create a Thunar right click that copies the full path of a file/directory to the clipboard directly. It does use xclip as a dependency. Thunar - Get_Full_Path_pet (right-click, save-as).

Hi elroy,

I made something very similar the other day, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 298#823298 though I did it slightly differently.

Hi Geoffery,

Yeah, that's what I get for not keeping up with the forum  Oh well, at least I'm not the only one that finds copying text from 'Show Full Path' cumbersome.

@ elroy

Great minds think alike lol, yeah, I got sick of copying the path the old way, especially when there are a lot of them required.

Edit today Wed Feb 4 13:03:47 EST 2015:

Added converseen-0.8.6-i486 to the repo.

Edit: fixed lib file dependency for xfce 4.10 and theme manager entry.

Optional Puppy Linux or Carolina heading text.

Compiled latest whisker menu, source edited to suit Carolina, looks the same as the old version, the search feature now finds apps in the control panel,.

Thanks to rg66 for the source.

I'll get around to updating the repo soon, at the moment I'm still sorting out XFCE 12 and should have the packages for an upgrade shortly.

Geoffrey,
I downloaded carolina-1.3 and took it for a spin.
I like the sparse menu but am not a fan of XFCE. Nontheless, I would stay with it if only I could get online. The problem is that ndiswrapper is not fully/properly installed. No ndiswrapper.ko exists in the system. Apparently, ndiswrapper should be compiled in the kernel.

This issue has come up in the slacko-6 and tahrpup-6.0 threads.

I compiled the ndiswrapper, try this and see if that fixes it for you, I have nothing to test it with.

I have ndiswrapper working but it's not connecting with the driver I used, it does however find the access point ok, just one of those things I guess.

The pet did not work.
A search for ndiswrapper in a virgin carolina showed 3 files:

Code: Select all

/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-buginfo
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapperGUI.sh
As mentioned in my first post, ndiswrapper.ko does not exist in the system.
On installing the pet, I was warned that these same files will be overwritten. The pet was successfully installed.

I disabled frisbee and enabled Internet Connection Wizard at the Control Panel.
On completeing the routine to identify/select the Windows driver there is success until the last stage when the error in the screenshot is reported.

A search for ndiswrapper after the pet install reveals:

Code: Select all

/lib/modules/3.2.13-ski/misc/ndiswrapper.ko
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-buginfo
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapperGUI.sh
/usr/share/man/man8/ndiswrapper.8
The ndiswrapper.ko is found where I expect it to be.

Output from the comparative search in tahrpup-6's implementation is:

Code: Select all

/etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper.conf
/etc/ndiswrapper
/lib/modules/3.14.20/misc/ndiswrapper.ko
/tmp/ndiswrapper-buginfo.gz
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-1.9
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-buginfo
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapperGUI.sh
Other miscellaneous info which may/may not be helpful:

Code: Select all

The Windows driver files are installed here:
/etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwlhigh5
/etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwlhigh5/bcmwlhigh5.inf
/etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwlhigh5/bcmwlhigh5.sys

Code: Select all

lsusb at the terminal shows the NetGear wi-fi dongle
4GB) / PNY Attache 4GB Stick
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0846:9020 NetGear, Inc.
