Virtualbox

#856 Post by trhmusician »

Earlier in this post rg66 helped me out when I my step mom had a weird grub4dos installation error. I was able to figure it out, she was trying to install Carolina and grub to a partition that was too small, and had no more room on it. I was able to help her and get everything installed right, and she's had nothing but positive things to say about Carolina Linux!

Now to my question. I installed Virtualbox, but when I go to open the program it gives me an error that says that I need the devx package. Can you help me get this, as I can't seem to find it on my own?

Thank you so much for your time and help, and keep up the amazing work!

The devx sfs is here: http://smokey01.com/carolina/devx/devx_lina_006.sfs
I found it best to rename it devx_lina_007.sfs or it doesn't show up in sfs load.

You'll also need the kernel sources http://smokey01.com/carolina/sfs/kernel ... 13-ski.sfs This is for pae only.

Updated repo with a few new applications.

nomacs-1.2.0 is worth a look, would most likely make a better default image viewer.

Updated repo with a few new applications.

HathiDownloadHelper-1.0.4 is worth a look, download and create PDF books from http://www.hathitrust.org/

This Qt application is quite small at 528K.

Hi everybody!

I was looking in repository, there is a md5sum for an rc6...
I follow the evolution of Carolina checking the thread every day but I didn't see any new release.
Did I miss anything or there will be soon a new version?

About this, I also would like to know if there are plans for a final version.
In a pc i still keep a 005 (it's so good and I don't have the need to change it :) ) and sometimes I check new rc but I'm evaluating if it's better to "clone" the 005 installation or to wait for a final release.

In every case, please accept my appreciation and thanks for the great job You are doing :)

We are currently working on an rc6 release and there was an rc5>rc6 delta and md5sum in the repo but was for testing. It shouldn't have been in the ISO folder and has been removed.

Yes, there are plans for a final version.

Saluki is an old breed but the ancient Egyptians liked the Berem. In N America, the wolverine lineage might need to await the archeological controversies about their oldest inhabitants - in the sapiens line, that is (rather more is presently known about the sauropds).

Carolina-007rc6 has been released. A few apps have been added and some have been updated, most notably LibreOffice, Firefox and Thunderbird.

Barring any bugs, this will be the final release.

The non-pae delta will be release shortly.

Change log and download link are in the first post.

The blue links announcing the release are for the ISO's and delta's. The green links for each rc are for the forum post.

Feeback of lina-007rc4-non-pae

Great, area of improvements:

* Update needed on obsolete ffmpeg 0.8x to 2.0, so as to support additional codecs such as playing wma files (need file association).

* update of LibreOffice 4.0.x to latest(4.0.4 or upcoming 4.0.5), as several hundred of bug fixes.

* Wish Skype is already installed.

* Update Thunar 1.4 to 1.6.3

* Any reason not to update Clementine from 1.0 to 1.1?

Finally and mostly, I experience lost of Wireless connection and can't sucessful reconnect without reboot, which is uttermost annoyand, but other recent puppies, suffer the same.

Thanks.

Update Thunar 1.4 to 1.6.3
Be careful about upgrading Thunar!

I have been using Porteus XFCE recently and I find
Thunar buggy and slow.

I agree Don, it's quite usable as is, 1.6.3 don't play well with volume-monitor, doubles up on drives when mounted, we did try it and opted to leave it be, if you have lots of drives mounted it gets messy.

The green rc6 link is supposed to link here. All the green links, rc6, rc5 etc..., link to the release announcement in the Carolina thread.

The blue links at the top of the first post go to the repo to download ISO's or delta's.

Ah! My misunderstanding. I guess I expect coloured text to link to the subject, not a redirect to Forum discussion and announcements. At the time I first raised my comment I couldn't find the .iso only the deltae. I use CD-RW and successively overwrite them rather than mess about with file updating, although I do recognise the value of them to DUN users and mobile/tab users with mean ISP d/l limits!

Got the PAE version running liveCD - extremely good.
Stable after pfix=ram, nox, but earlier default boot up, which seemed to be OK crashed when I tried to load the Control Panel, requiring a full, hard reset ie PSU off; very odd as my HW responds OK to almost everything else. Can't rule out an isolated occurrence.

Later: spoke too soon - it crashed during a return from screensaver/sleep. Will check on other HW.

Another day: seems to have been an HW issue - Radeon card +' unusual' stick of 1Gb. Everything OK now. Great release.

Having a pleasant summer in Portland Oregon, US.

I dnld the Delta the other day. This 7rc6 is very interesting. In truth, I'm swinging towards Pemasu's Upup 3.9.9 because of the kernel newness :D ( + i like JWM).
