It seems to work in other puppies

Don570. I do have gtkdialog in /usr/sbin. I changed the folder location to /usr/sbin and then I also stripped the binary.
I will use it now to test new Pmusic development version:

I wrote this rightclick script to convert .ps file (postscript)
to pdf files.

I don't know if it's useful since I don't use ps
I believe it requires ps2pdf and ghostscript to be installed

Try it out for me. I tested it on Barry Kauler's reference file
that is included in every puppy.

Don570. Ps2pdf do its job just fine. Thanks. I tes ted couple of more complex .ps files. Charlie6 with real need and demands would be best tester, but I am confirmed that I can add this rox right click to the build.

This is nice addition to the existing postscript_viewer rox right click addition which was previously hacked together by charlie6 and Shinobar. Using existing scripts with modifications.

I just changed the .DirIcon to point to the existing .png

Thanks.

Hi Pemasu, and don570 ! thanks again to you !

your pet works nicely here on dpup-exprimo.

As I'm «addicted» to zero-paper-management , I am indeed used to daily handle native .ps documents which i can straight use for faxing (using efax-gtk); or which i may convert to png for editing; or pdf for mailing to customers, or archiving;

I also use sam2p for converting graphic formats, but it is one more program to be installed which i believe somewhat redundant with already-on-board binaries as pstopdf, pstopdfwr, etc..

Moreover the roght-click options dramaticaly speeds up the time to get them converted (till now i had to 1st) open a console and 2nd) manually convert using command line scripting and 3rd)..etc...)

for info: sam2p + right-click options here

Does Hardinfo show whether the kernel was gen'd with KVM active?

Thanks in advance

I dont know. If you find that information from it, tell me.
But I didnt enable KMS for Radeon as default at kernel level. I just tested it and KMS Radeon as default enabled kernel worked with my ati dual graphics...but that was with wheezy and wheezy xorg is much newer.

I am not sure if it is reasonable to enable KMS for Radeon as default with squeeze. xorg drm radeon driver might hick up. I dont know. Is there reason to enable KMS for Radeon in squeeze build ?

KMS has been added though, but it is not enabled as default for Radeon or for Intel....which makes KMS behave differently if it was enabled as default. Late Adopter has explained that in several threads in murga-forum. Check Precise Puppy and Wheezy threads for example.

More USB DVB testing

Hi pemasu,
New installation then installed new media dir and all the other pets.
did a w_scan.
smplayer failed as before locking up immediately.
VLC 2.01 same as smplayer.

Another fresh install with new media etc. Then I went back to VLC 1.0.6 this runs 5-10 seconds before locking up.

Conclusion no difference from previous testing.

I did notice kernel 3.6.3 is out :D

all for now

Thanks DC. You have done your bit with testing. I think that the media build git I used have the newest commits. Newer that 3.6.3 kernel provides. It will be probably 3.7 kernel before git commits are transferred to the official kernel which I tested.

I will inform you when I do next new kernel build. Thanks of the info of 3.6.3. I will check the change log soon.

Unfortunately it seems still to be difficult to offer for you rtl2832U support with dpup. Nevertheless thank you for testing and providing the reports.

USB DVB

DC/pemasu,
In an attempt to isolate this DVB-T problem I did a fresh manual frugal install to a USB2 stick and just installed the smplayer and QT pets. (driver-NV). A copy of my channels.conf was placed in .mplayer.

No joy. I did get some split images which then froze. In the background the logs showed that channels.conf was constantly being parsed. In particular I also spotted a reference to a missing “en

Would Pemasu's tests with KMS for Radeon-Intel impact multimedia problems in any way?
Edited: Regarding "impact", means "provide solutions to" any of the multimeida-video problems.

Here to help

pemasu I have just installed Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.6.2.1 with kernel 3.6.2 on my little Eeepc and everyting works just great.

I have added a whole lot of additional software like seamonkey, abiword, gnumeric, qt4 and Skype and they work fine too.

Very impressive.

I tested charlie6's wacom driver on Exprimo (kernel 3.6.2)
and it worked.

I noticed that in /etc/X11/ there is a file in charlie's pet package
that explains how to make xorg.conf file

I did notice that with your gtkdialog.pet it has no examples with it. So I redid the pet so now it does come with the examples.

I Can upload here if you would want me to.

Cheers

Those examples are very useful.
They should have been kept in package.

y/n bug frugal ataSDD/HD installation?

#64 Post by duh »

Hallo,
in hope You could help or control me:

Why this Dpup is working like a charm via USB-stick frugaly at the actual same physical machine?
Inner frugaly with SATA-SDD-drive or HD-drive with no fortune.
What results in following system stop:

----
failed
Dumping last lines of /tmp/bootinit.log
ls: /lib/keymaps/#*.gz: No such file or directory / #*.gz would do

Dumping last lines of kernel.log k....log n/a
<5>[ 1.469211] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesnt support DPO or FUA

<6>[ 1.470015] sda1 sda2 sda3 <sda5 sda6 sda7>
<5>[ 1.471269] sda 2:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI disk
<6>[ 1.471306] Freeing unused kernel memory: 452 k freed

Pausing for 60 seconds.....

Loading drivers needed to access disk drives
Searching for puppy files .... p.-sq.5.X.3.6.2.1.sfs not found. Dropping out to init-ramdisk-console
----
Bootinit.log:

ls: /lib/keymaps/#*.gz No Such File or Directory --> n.s.F/D
cut: can't open '/sys/bus/pci/devices/*/modalias: --> n.s.F/D
Opening /proc/modules: --> n.s.F/D
Opening /proc/modules: --> n.s.F/D
/sys/block: --> n.s.F/D
grep: /proc/partitions: --> n.s.F/D
ls: /sys/block/*/: --> n.s.F/D
ls: /sys/block: --> n.s.F/D
Opening /proc/modules: --> n.s.F/D
mount: mounting none on /proc/bus/usb failed: ---> n.s.F/D
/sys/block: --> n.s.F/D
Opening /proc/moduls: --> n.s.F/D
--------- end of bootinit.log

kernel.log isn't given in /tmp

As Dpup is always fit to run newest OPENCPN chartplotter Im very much
interested in an advice (except using USB/CD).
Is this kernel, initscript or time critical as USB and CD load slower than HD/SDD ?
( /#*.gz --> n.s.F/D SPACE following slash: / #*.gz :funktion o.k.)

Thank You for Your kind help

Here are the gtkdialog examples packaged so they can be launched
quickly from Start menu. They are located next to geany in the start menu.

The scripts are in
