Google Nexus 7 does not have any SD slot Whoa!

#1 Post by nooby »

Okay you can buy them very cheaply compared
to other "pads" or tablets and they come in two version?
8GB and 16GB but much of that is already used up.

Now I have to admit my lack of brain.
Are one supposed to upload to Cloud service
and then download to an external HD using some
NAT or what? How to handle that small space
that easily get filled of one love movies to take
on a long Bus trip over teh continent?

It has wifi so maybe one can set up some network
then to share files with another computer and then
delete and download new movies for the trip home?

Could someone explain? Or is there a way to move
files out of the internal storage and out to another computer
using a mini usb cable? The prize is very right.

okay it is too high for me who wants to use standard
keyboard and mouse but for a long trip all over Europe
it could be a cool thing to have with you? 2000SEK=300USD

I avoid buying anything which does not take an SD card. Besides, the more apps you can transfer to a card, the better Android seems to run

Yes one wonder how much more it would cost if they
had included that slot for a SD card mickro or standard.

If even Raspberry Pi being so cheap in price can have it
then why not a tablet ten time that price? Crazy.

Yes it maybe get bogged down the more apps that
gets activated in the back ground?

So what am one supposed to do. I mean the size is right.
7 inch is more handy than a 10 inch thing and I already
do have three such Netbooks. Too heavy for wimpy guys
like me to carry around :)

Smart Phones are too limited and too small screens.
The biggest is almost 5 inches and to my old eyes
that is too small. And usually they seldom have 1GB RAM
of memory and not easy to get Puppy in dual boot on?

You have to root them too and that can be experimental.
Do it on your own risk they tell us.

What I don't like about tablets/pads are that the screen
is very vulnerable to crash due to mechanical accidents.

So if I get it one can use the USB to add files that way
and save files that way to another computer? and from
that one to an usb memory but not directly from the Nexus
to that USB memory?

I guess I should wait until more practical solutions get affordable.

Ridiculous that a 'mobile device' would be so limited - what happens when you go on holiday or a trip and want to load it up with films TV and music ? im sure google would say use the cloud, but mobile data is often download usage restricted, patchy and slow and if you travel to some other country roaming data charges are eye watering expensive per MB of data never mind GB's

Yes one read of people that goes totally bankruptcy
due to them not realizing how incredibly expensive it is.

Can you find out if the micro USB cable can load files from
another computer into the Nexus? I do want a small 7"
tablet because them have no fan so totally silent and one
can hold them with one hand.

Okay maybe just my gadget fetish? One don't have to own
each new gadget just because one have the money to buy it :)

Just bring along a cable and a usb stick or drive.

It works in puppy, but needs a mount point. You can load mtpfs_0.9.3
and libmtp8_1.0.3 and then mount a directory where the files show up:

mtpfs -o allow_other /Nexus

I am to assume that you Wifi Active and your Nexus 7 can be seen on yur WIFI network.

If so, would you go to your App Store and download the app to allow Windows LAN connection. It is also sometimes referred to as SMB connection. This will allow you information and files from your Nexus to any LAN PC which is seen on your LAN.

The ONLY reason that this is not built-in to your Androd system is RIAA.

My File Manager app has this functionality. There's a network/scan function that gives access to all shared files/directories on the network.

I just received a USB Host Mode OTG cable, and it works like a charm streaming media from an attached flash drive....videos, pictures, docs, ebooks...anything. The app I'm using is Nexus Media Importer.

The touchpad limitation is no longer an issue, since it works well with a bluetooth keyboard. I picked up a Brookstone 806127 at an airport on my way to Guatemala It comes in a leather sleeve for easy packing and works as well as laptop. Amazingly, it also works well with a little ipod touch.
