Scanner

#257 Post by Wognath »

rcrsn51,
Thanks for the quick reply. Both scanner and printer work in Saluki using the printer-scanner-drivers.sfs. I think that contains hplip 3.11.10. I tried Precise on my daughter's computer (atom processor). Again, printer works, scanner does not.
I tried 5.4.0.90 also--same result.

I wonder if HP has accidentally broken support for this model in 3.12.10a.

I am sending you a PM about this.

In 5.4.0.90, the problem with ePDFview not rendering colours correctly is still present.

While I appreciate the inclusion of YASSM and Network, I expect that many users will miss Pnethood if it has been working for them.

Yes, it looks funny. (I think I'm going to buy the green one.)

@rcrsn51

Hi,
If you would print this pdf file with a colour printer (-I don't have any-) how will the colours look like? (I mean using Precise Puppy for the print job.)

I have installed your pet: 'epdfview_precise_revert-0.1.8.pet' ; it coverts the jpg file to a pdf file, but the colours still don't match.

Finished downloading precise 5.4. Testing it reveals several problems.

On first boot it refused to save the session. After asking for save file name it rebooted without saving session. Next time I ran wmreboot in terminal but this time it worked properly. :? Will try again to reproduce the problem.

Display, opengl and internet is working properly. Posting from there now.

In devx gdb doesn't work.

Code: Select all

# gdb
gdb: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.7.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
#
Installing libpython2.7_2.7.3-0ubuntu3_i386.deb fixes gdb.

Also gio has problems using modules. It's a glib bug and affects some other distros as well. See here.

Edit: Didn't see precise 5.4.0.90.

I agree. Pnetwood could be retained in the iso while YASSM might be proposed package.

Corrected Frisbee 3.0 uploaded

#266 Post by rerwin »

Integrated-Frisbee testers,
I fixed the greyed-out wireless-tab problem! The corrected (20121106) package is here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 521#662521

For now, though, the "configure wireless..." part of the Frisbee window will be greyed out until Frisbee is set as the default network manager, followed by a reboot. I hope to improve that as we go on. So, the test steps are:
  • - Install the frisbee package and all 5 of the puppy-mod pet packages (posted 2 messages above frisbee).
    - Use the Connect Wizard to start Frisbee.
    - Exit Frisbee either by the X or by tabbing to the wired network part and clicking Exit.
    - Click on the "Set Frisbee as default" button (or whatever it is called).
    - Reboot and the wireless tab should be usable.
If you already have the original test setup, you can simply uninstall the old Frisbee package and install the new one, assuming the other 5 packages are already installed and you have not made other changes.

?????

ePDFview is a PDF viewer, not a JPEG-to-PDF converter. All we are doing here is installing an older version of the program that renders colours correctly.

Tried Precise 5.4.0.90 and it still produces mostly black screens at
startup once in awhile. The wireless connection issues are still there
as well, though they aren't severe. For example now and again Precise
will startup with no connection (frugal installs). Sometimes it takes
three or four tries of SNS to get a connection. No such problems with
Lucid 528.

On a PC I just purchased, Precise pulls a new trick of stalling out
(freezing) during startup at the line:
recognizing media devices ... optical input
Out of curiosity I replaced the CD rom drive with a different one. Same
thing. Can't get Precise to work at all on this PC (an old Dell Dimension
with P4 2.0 ghz and 768 meg RAM). The machine works perfectly using
Windows XP or Lucid 528.

As reported to Barry's blog.

:::::

But I forgot to add....still no Frisbee.
Although I read recently it is in his repository.

I still think it should be a Pet in network,
like Lucid was.

Still...a good result.
Thanks to all.

technosaurus wrote:Everyone needs to realize that Ubuntu packages are built for 686 cpus with the CMOV instruction. This means that Precise will fail on all 486 and 586, the via c3, pentium, pentium mmx, amd geode and the vortex86 series of cpus and several others (see /proc/info to find out if you have the cmov flag)

This is a likely cause of the non-reproducible bug reports. @Barry, didn't you have a gecko edubook? That would be a good test box for this.

Edit: at 1 point choosing PAE in the kernel config also enabled some cmov instructions that prevented booting on these cpus, though IDK if it is still the case.
Actually, I had two of those Geckos. I gave one to a NGO charity organisation in India. The other just stopped working one day, completely dead.

Interesting, same thing happened to the Intel Classmate mini laptops. I had two of those also, also gave one to the India charity, and the other also went dead one one day.

The only thing I have left that is pre-Pentium is my old PC with Cyrix 6x86 CPU. But that is currently in a friend's backyard shed.

I had to make some pretty tough decisions when I sold my house at Perenjori, got rid of so much stuff. But, at least I did keep some old hardware, in storage until one day when I settle somewhere permanent. ...which probably will happen mid-2013.

Once upon a time (version 1.04) I have used it much.
But now it seems to have disappeared
Yes, that was a long time ago. If I recall rightly, there were two of them, one was written in tcl/tk, the other gtk1.2.

Which was why we had to leave them behind.

Yes, I've been "auto" logged out sometimes recently. I thought it was my mistakes; but I couldn't think what I'd done.

My regards
and thanks
