gps for slacko?

hi, after searching a few old threads i dont seem to be able to find any up-to-date relevent info on offline mapping software for slacko.
next week i am driving from uk to bulgaria and have been given an old laptop, which i quickly freed from the chains of winxp and planted with the latest puppy distro. i need to firstly get some software that can either cache googlemaps (which wont run anyway) or a standalone mapping program that either can download and cache maps of my route, or i can easily download a pack of maps for.
im in a bit of a panic as time is getting low and there are a million other things to get sorted. please send me any links to slacko compat software and/or mapping resources. must be drop-in compat as i dont have time to play the dependancy/lib game
