Sub_title: files keep coming back after deletion and reboot

I accidentally put three files in the “/” directory, ( an image file, an audio file, and a text document ).

After deleting them from the “/” directory they reappear there after reboot.

I’ve even tried using Bcrypt on these Lazarus files, which overwrites the original file 3 times after encrypting them, but they reappear, unencrypted, after reboot.

I’m running Puppy 525 from a USB stick. Otherwise everything seems to be running fine : I can delete files from other directories and they stay deleted.

It seems just the "/" directory isn't being updated on the .2f savefile when I shutdown, so the old version with the "deleted" files reappears on reboot.

You do not mention the version of Puppy you are having that problem with.
But try this.
Boot to another Puppy version.
Navigate to the directory of the version you are having the delete problem with.
Click on it's pupsave to mount it.
Delete the files in question.
Click on the pupsave file again to unmount it.
Boot to that version of Puppy again to see if the files are now gone.

I did attempt that already but the pupsave .2fs file couldn't be mounted, ( maybe because it has heavy encryption ? ).

Hey Barkin

Perhaps here's an answer:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=81248

(In short: just try to delete those files directly from /initrd/pup_ro1/)

Greetings!

That did it : the Lazarus files are gone from "/" and do not reappear after reboot. Thank you.

Oddly I could add files to the "/" directory and those additions persisted after reboot, but I could not delete them from that directory in the usual way. Maybe it's some sort of protection to prevent the essential system directories in "/" from accidentally being deleted ?.
