Precise 5.4 live CD won't use dfm-562IS PCI Soft modem

#1 Post by edmont »

Using Precise Puppy 5.4 I find that I can't use the win modem
from D-Link .
Is this only a difficulty if I use the Live CD .

Wary 5.3 dials out fine using this modem .

I'm using an intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz processor based system ,
which I believe is compatible with i686 code .

What gives .

If I understood the release notes correctly,
std pae version = no dial-up drivers.
non-pae version = dial-up drivers. So use this for dial-up.

edmont,
Not all of the previously available modem drivers are included in Precise because they were not up-to-date for the kernel used by Precise. Please tell us more about the modem, particularly the hardware ID that you can find with Menu > System > PupScan. Click the "PCI" button to see the list, then look near the bottom of the list. It might even list a driver name.

Unfortunately, the popular "ltmodem" and "pctel"drivers are some of the ones not ready. I hope to monitor development of the missing drivers and add them when they become available.

Okay that sounds plausible , where might I find the non-pae version,
I did a google search which took me to Barry's blog ; no apparent link
from there to a non-pae version though .
