How to cure PMusic stuttering?

#1 Post by PaulR »

When playing an mp3 in PMusic it 'stutters' when there's any 'uneven' load, for example scrolling a large/detailed webpage, even if there are no other programs open and there's lots of free RAM.

Is there any way to reduce or remove this effect?

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul

In the preferences you can also set an alternative frontend. The LowPowered frontend is meant for lower specs.

What version of pMusic are you using? Older releases was more hungry on resources.

But the most powerful tool is probably to click on the pmusic tray-app.
It will then hide the gui, but still play your que.
Like this, the resource hunger is a minimum.

You can check how well pmusic plays a song without a gui
by playing in background

pmusic -b /path/to/song

Taken from 'pmusic --help'

Code: Select all

-U MILLISEC Set update interval for progressbar +++
This is useful to reduce cpu-hunger on low-powered systems
                 Default is 1000 = 1 sec

Recent pMusic supports sound filtering, and it would be a good idea to deactivate 'Normalize' in the preferences and other sound filter plugins to reduce cpu-usage.
