I'm looking into writing a script using xrandr with different modes.

I notice on my setup Precise only has one mode 1024x768

where as Slacko 5.3.1 has three-

# xrandr --prop
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm panning 1024x768+0+0
1024x768 60.0*+
800x600 60.3 56.2
640x480 59.9

where are these modes added (addmode), is it in a configuration file, if so which one?

also is there a guide somewhere to create new modes? other than the info at http://linux.die.net/man/1/xrandr
