Hi geomonroe, Welcome to the forum. Generally speaking Puppy versions work well without needing constant updating, apart from network software like web-browsers. Ways to install Puppy and how to upgrade information is given here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60302 If your are asking about upgrading programs, bug fixes, improvements in general to a version of Puppy you are using. That depends on the version of Puppy you have. Most developers, of a version of Puppy, make improvements by releasing a new version or an instant update for a version. Example: Lucid Puppy Lucid Puppy 5.0 -at first release. Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 Lucid Puppy 5.2.8.005 - latest release. There is no auto update in Puppy like other OS's. Updating is a manual operation in Puppy. You find it, download, and install. Updating individual programs: Additional Software (Pets N' Stuff) section of this forum find the programs topic. Yes, the latest Woof-built puppies, such as Precise 5.4.2 and Slacko 5.4 (and Wary 5.4beta2) will automatically check for existence of a "Service Pack" -- that is, an upgrade PET package -- just like Windows! Well, there aren't any yet for Precise and Slacko, as they only got released recently. Service Packs are intended for minor sub-version upgrades.
