If your MacBook has the intel processor, you should be able to boot to Puppy just fine and can try any of the versions of Puppy you would like.
But....
If your processor is instead a Motorola processor, there is not yet any version of Puppy that you can use other than doing a search and possibly join in on the development that some are still doing to try to get Puppy to work with a MAC with the Motorola processor.

If your Macbook Pro has an intel processor and a CD or DVD optical drive, you should be able to boot Puppy from it.
I am unsure of if the Macbook Pro has the option to boot from a flash drive.
But with a CD/DVD burnt as multi-session, you could boot from it and save your settings back to the CD/DVD that would be picked up and used on the next boot.
I remember the old version of the OS where one chose the boot medium from the control panel. But I do not know if that included an option for flash drives.

Is there a puppy version for macBook Pro ?
vmars316:
Since your macBookPro is version 3.1, Wikipedia seems to show that it has a Intel brand Core 2 Duo CPU (not the older risc Motorola processor.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Pro
However, that same Wikipedia article also seems to show that the MacBook Pro motherboard comes with the BIOS successor: Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) 1.1.
(EFI handles booting differently from conventional BIOS-based PC computers.)
There is mention of getting a Linux USB drive to boot on a MAC here (Mac OS X Lion: How To Boot A Linux Live System From An USB Drive): https://discussions.apple.com/thread/27 ... 0&tstart=0
On the Ubuntu forums there is a many page discussion of getting a MAC EFI motherboard to boot grub or grub2: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=995704
Here on murga-linux.com's Puppy forum, the issue of booting EFI motherboards on very recent PC's is discussed: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... d192931d29
Perhaps there are more MAC savy people who can put all this together for you!

_____________________________________First off, you’ll need to ensure that there’s a 200MB HFS+ partition which you can install the EFI bootloader to. This should be set to mount at
/boot/efi.
Thanks guys for all your info.
Looks pretty messy.
One of the links lead me to: http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/index.html
where he mentions VirtualBox.
Think I'll walk down that trail a bit.

Update the BIOS. If you have 1.1 for example, get the latest update of it. Do NOT get a different BIOS number, you can screw up your computer. After I had done this, boot menus were much easier to use and stopped bugging.
Then install refit.
It may still not work though, USB booting works only on the later computers, and even sD card booting doesn't work on (some?) macs with sD slots.
Best versions to try are FatDog64, 600 or 601 or 610 (not 520). It'll definitely work CD boot or hard drive install alongside MacOS.

this is true if you are using RW (rewritable) cd/dvd then that will work up until the cd/dvd becomes full. so keep save file small.8-bit wrote:If your Macbook Pro has an intel processor and a CD or DVD optical drive, you should be able to boot Puppy from it.
