#1 Post by James C »

Greg Kroah-Hartman has got UEFI boot working without a key with about as much trouble as it is to change boot device order.

Good news for booting Linux w/ Secure Boot

Unfortunately the video is blurry, somewhat out of focus, so it is a bit hard to read the screen...

Apparently, the Acer system that Greg K-H has is able to utilize UEFI and secure boot without the need for any signed key. I am not sure if that is what is really happening here, especially since that is not how UEFI is supposed to work in conjunction with Secure Boot. I suspect that Acer has its own signed key which will allow its new systems to boot any operating system with UEFI... just that this part of the security procedure is not visible to the user.

Without doubt, there is more to this story that will come to light soon.
