The 64bit Puppy system family has 2 new additions, Fatdog64 630rc2 and Slacko64 5.8.6.

I am creating new Chinese Language pets for them using the same approach as for the 32bit Puppy system:

a. first create universal half-Chinese Language pets with Chinese font file and Chinese input platform (either fcitx or SCIM)

b. followed by a version specific Chinese Language pet to display desktop and menus in Chinese but without the Chinese fonts and Chinese input platform

Part(a)has now been done and 2 new half-Chinese Language pets for the 64bit Puppy system were uploaded to the public sharing folder:
fcitx64-420-en-zh-1.0.0.pet
SCIM64-1414-en-zh-1.0.0.pet

Please see first post of this subject for the download addresses

Features of these half-Chinese Language pets:

1.each can handle anyone of these 3 64bit Puppy English systems:
lighthouse64 602; fatdog64 630rc2 and slacko64 5.8.6

2. fcitx64 has the fcitx input platform version 4.2.0 with 4 Chinese Input Methods

lighthouse64 is one of the 3 64bit English Puppy systems. The latest version is 602 (base and mariner) released on July 1, 2013.

Chinese Language pets for lighthouse64 602 Base and Mariner were made and released on July 10 and 15 2013. These pets were made using the previous style with each pet containing a Chinese font file and a Chinese input method platform. I have now modified these Chinese Language pets to:

1. remove the Chinese font file

2. remove the Chinese input platform

3. consolidate the Base and Mariner pets

these new pets (can handle both the Base and Mariner systems) are:

a. Simplified Chinese: lighthouse64-602BM-zhcn-1.0.0.pet

b. Traditional Chinese: lighthouse64-602BM-zhhk-1.0.0.pet

To use these Chinese Language pets, you have to install a 64bit universal half-Chinese Language pet first to get the Chinese font file and Chinese input method platform. The names of the latest 64bit universal half-Chinese Language pets are:

c. fcitx input platform: fcitx64-420-en-zh-1.0.0.pet

d. SCIM input platform: SCIM64-1414-en-zh-1.0.0.pet

These pets are now available for download in the public sharing folders. Please see the first post of this subject for the download addresses.

For more information about lighthouse64 602 including download addresses, please see my posts on July 10 and 15 2013.

Known issue:
After installing fcitx64-420-en-zh-1.0.0.pet, the lighthouse64 system becomes very unstable, screen can become frozen and requires a reboot - thus losing all current work. The SCIM pet is a lot more stable.

Quirky-tahr versions released so far:

more information about quirky-tahr: http://bkhome.org/news/?viewDetailed=00053

download tahr-6.0.1.usfs.xz (173 mb): http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... ahr-6.0.1/

In order to provide Chinese Language support for quirky tahr, I have updated the Chinese Language pets as follows:

fcitx input platform: fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.0.pet (11.9 mb)

To use these pets:
1. To have Chinese fonts and Chinese input platform for quirky-tahr
a. install the gtk patch pets in A above, and
b. install either the fictx or SCIM universal half-Chinese Language fonts in B above

2. To have items in 1 above, Chinese desktop and menus for quirky-tahr
c. install 1a and 1b above,and
d. install either the Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese Language pets in C above

Further to my post on Feb 11, 2014 about Quirky-tahr 6.0.1, 4 bug fixes versions were released.

Feb 15, 2014: 6.0.5
Feb 11, 2014: 6.0.4
Feb 9, 2014: 6.0.3
Feb 4, 2014: 6.0.2

more information about quirky-tahr: http://bkhome.org/news/?viewDetailed=00064

download latest tahr-6.0.5.usfs.xz (175 mb): http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... ahr-6.0.5/

To get Chinese Language support on quirky tahr 6.0.2,Chinese Language pets for quirky tahr 6.0.1 can be used (for details please my post on Feb 11, 2014)
However, quirky tahr 6.0.3 to 6.0.5 needs special adjustments as follows.

A. a new gtk patch for quirky-tahr 6.0.3, 6.0.4 and 6.0.5 is required
In order to run either fcitx or SCIM input platforms, these latest quirky-tahr systems require a revised gtk patch:
quirky-tahr-6.0.3-zh-gtk.patch.pet (3.2 mb)

This pet is kept separate from the universal half-Chinese pets because it is only needed for quirky-tahr and the size is too large to be absorbed into the universal half-Chinese Language pets

B. Universal half-Chinese Language pets:
The latest SCIM half-Chinese Language pet 8.0.0 is good for handling the latest quirky tahr systems. However a new fcitx half-Chinese Language pet (8.0.1) is required to run the fcitx Chinese input platform in quirky-tahr 6.0.3 to 6.0.5. To set up Chinese Language support, the required universal half-Chinese Language pets are:
fcitx input platform: fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (11.9 mb)
SCIM input platform: SCIM-147-en-zh-8.0.0.pet (19.6 mb)

C. Chinese Language pets
Chinese Language pets will provide Chinese desktop and menus for quirky-tahr 6.0.3 to 6.0.5, the names of the new pets are:
Traditional Chinese: quirky-tahr-6.0.3-zhhk-8.0.1.pet (2.5 mb)
Simplified Chinese: quirky-tahr-6.0.3-zhcn-8.0.1.pet (2.9 mb)

To use these pets:
1. To have Chinese fonts and Chinese input platform for quirky-tahr 6.0.3 to 6.0.5:
a. install the gtk patch pets in A above, and
b. install either the fictx or SCIM universal half-Chinese Language fonts in B above

2. To have items in 1 above, Chinese desktop and menus for quirky-tahr
c. install 1a and 1b above,and
d. install either the Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese Language pets in C above

Chinese Language Pets

Recently, alextome posted a message in the Puppy Linux Chinese Forum pointing out that after applying the Chinese Language pet for quirky-tahr-6.0.3, seamonkey cannot start.

The reason? When I created the Chinese Language pets for quirky-tahr, both fcitx and SCIM Chinese Input Platforms cannot start in quirky-tahr. I then discovered that some of the gtk programs used in quirky were missing from quirky-tahr. Therefore I simply added those missing quirky gtk programs into quirky-tahr and the problem was gone. I posted this finding in the quirky-tahr forum and hope that future versions of quirky-tahr will include enough gtk programs to give a more user friendly environment for the Chinese Language pets. The author of quirky-tahr, Barry Kauler replied shortly to my posting and pointed out that my quick fix method inserts gtk programs from quirky, which is based on gtk version 2.20.1 into the quirky-tahr system, which is based on gtk 2.24.x. This mixing of gtk versions might cause certain applications unable to run. (For details, please see : http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=570, Posting on Thu 13 Feb 2014)

After reading that comment, I tried to put together a new gtk patch based purely on gtk version 2.24.x but found it too time consuming. I decided to drop that idea because I was not aware of any applications that cannot start. This reason for doing nothing cannot be used now.

To solve the seamonkey problem, the best approach is to replace the files in quirky-tahr-6.0.3-zh-gtk.patch.pet with gtk version 2.24.x files. But this takes time. A temporary solution is to use another browser. I tried and found that firefox can start in quirky-tahr after applying the Chinese Language pets. You can download more recent versions of firefox from the web. My test used Firefox-13-Lucid.pet and this pet was uploaded to the public sharing folder: Other Applications/ Additional pets 其他應用程
