WorkhorseOS Puppy 4.311 was created by darry1966 on 3 May 2014

Main features:
based on updated Puppy 4.3.1 to handle newer machines and programs
of course Puppy 4.3.1 can run on many older machines (very green)
Libreoffice 4.2.3.3
Flash 10.183.90
Midori 2.22 (requires enchant.pet to run)
Firefox 24.5.0
Glibc 2.10
Qt4-4.5.3-1
Xine-lib 1.1.19 and xine ui,
sqlite 3.6.12
Glib 2.22.2
Gtk 2.18.3
pango 1.22.3
JRE 1.6
grub4dos

more information: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 54edf5725d

download WorkhorseOS(4.311version).iso (437 mb) and enchant.pet (35 kb) to run Midori :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/workhor ... 20edition/

I have made these new Chinese Language pets to handle workhorse 4.311:
workhorse-4.311-zhhk-8.0.2.pet (Traditional Chinese 3.8 mb)
workhorse-4.311-zhcn-8.0.2.pet (Simplified Chinese 4.3 mb)

Please note that starting from version 8.0.0, the Chinese Language pets do not include Chinese font file and Chinese Input Method Platform. The recommended method to use these Chinese Language pets is to install the universal half-Chinese Language pets. The latest versions of universal half-Chinese Language pets are:
fcitx Chinese Input Method platform:fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.2.pet (12 mb)
SCIM Chinese Input Method platform:SCIM-147-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (20 mb)

Known issues:
the xterminal program that comes with WorkhorseOS 4.311 cannot run either fcitx or SCIM Chinese Input Platforms. The solution is to install either one of these other xterminal programs:
lxterminal.icake.pet (0.6 mb)
Roxterm.icake.pet (0.8 mb)
sakura.icake.pet (0.7 mb)

I have uploaded these 3 xterminal pets to the public sharing folder "Other Applications/ Additional pets".

All the above Chinese Language pets and universal half-Chinese Language pets are available to download from the public sharing folders. Please see the first post of this subject for the download addresses.

Besides WorkhorseOS 4.311 (437 mb by darry1966), here are 2 more updated 4.3.1 puppy:

A tiny barebone pup 4.3.1 max (84 mb by rerwin) and a normal size pup 4.3.2 updated (114 mb by ttuuxxx). These were also updated to handle newer programs and machines. Of course the beauty of pup 4.3.x is to give old machines a new life.

pup 4.3.1 max is a barebone system that has been updated with
4.311 updates by rerwin
gtk
pango
glibc 2.10

it can boot up a gui desktop, but has none of these:
word processor
editor geany, leafpad
spreadsheet
web browser

So is ideal for building your own system next from scratch.

pup 4.3.2 updated comes with the normal puppy programs and has
abiword
geany
seamonkey
gnumeric

and is good to extend the life of old machines.

For more information and download:
pup 4.3.1 max
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dazsbar ... bc%202.10/

pup 4.3.2 updated
https://archive.org/details/4.3.2.V3

I have made these new Chinese Language pets for pup 4.3.1 max and pup 4.3.2 updated:
Traditional Chinese
pup-4.3.1max-zhhk-8.0.2.pet (2.3 mb)
pup-4.3.2up-zhhk-8.0.2.pet (2.3 mb)
Simplified Chinese
pup-4.3.1max-zhcn-8.0.2.pet (2.7 mb)
pup-4.3.2up-zhcn-8.0.2.pet (2.7 mb)

Please note that starting from version 8.0.0, the Chinese Language pets do not include Chinese font file and Chinese Input Method Platform. The recommended method to use these Chinese Language pets is to install the universal half-Chinese Language pets. The latest versions of universal half-Chinese Language pets are:
fcitx Chinese Input Method platform:fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.2.pet (12 mb)
SCIM Chinese Input Method platform:SCIM-147-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (20 mb)

Known issues:
pup-4.3.1max
the xterminal program that comes with pup 4.3.1max cannot run either fcitx or SCIM Chinese Input Platforms. The solution is to install either one of these other xterminal programs:
lxterminal.icake.pet (0.6 mb)
Roxterm.icake.pet (0.8 mb)
sakura.icake.pet (0.7 mb)

I have uploaded these 3 xterminal pets to the public sharing folder "Other Applications/ Additional pets".

pup-4.3.2up
I cannot find a way to input Chinese in the xterminal under pup 4.3.2up. If anyone knows the solution, please let me know.

All the above Chinese Language pets and universal half-Chinese Language pets are available to download from the public sharing folders. Please see the first post of this subject for the download addresses.

As a follow up to the message posted on Aug 19 2014 by Stemsee about the release of new stemsee V2.2, I downloaded a copy of the iso and tried to create Chinese Language pets. However, I ran into some technical difficulties and was unable to continue. I discussed the problem with Stemsee and found that because stemsee V2.2 was based on debian, therefore it cannot run fcitx Chinese input platform directly.
I was told that future vesions of stemsee will be more friendly to Chinese Language pets and we look forward to their releases.

BanksyPup01 was released by greengeek on May 26, 2014

intended for "Live mode" usage without any savefile
preconfigured in either 'singleclick' mode or 'doubleclick' mode
target users:

1) People doing online banking who want the safety of using a session that is fresh every time:
- no passwords retained
- no history retained
- no previous savefiles grabbed by mistake.

2) Windows refugees who want to try Puppy Linux as a Live CD without risking their data or inadvertently writing to their HDDs..
- Normal drive and partition icons are removed from the desktop.
- The ususal drive mounter is no longer available from the menu.
- to mount drivers, open terminal and type "pmounter", enter

- Ex Windows users will probably prefer the doubleclick variant.

Key features:
BanksyPup is based on Slacko 5.6
openssl 1.0.1g installed.
- The RAMonly versions do not look for savefiles at boot time
- If you boot with the network cable connected you will be online quickly without further action. (network wizard still available for wifi setup).
- The firewall is automatically configured and activated.
- Some useful bookmarks are already present in the browser
- Banksy is configured to shut down without creating a savefile
- Several wallpapers are available.
- Banksy is set to default to Greenwich mean time and US keyboard layout to make it usable for a large number of users out-of-the-box. (Quicksetup icon on desktop if you want to make a change).
- Three icons are visible on the desktop to allow the user to choose their preferred speed of shutdown.
(All of these bypass savefile creation) -
'normaldown' activates the usual puppy shutdown procedure,
'quickdown' is slightly quicker (but still unmounts drives and partitions - which will not usually have been mounted by normal users anyway), and
'KILLdown' does an immediate poweroff (recommended when use Banksy for 'live mode')

Simplified Chinese: banksy-dc01-zhcn-8.0.2.pet (2.1 mb)

Please note that starting from version 8.0.0, the Chinese Language pets do not include Chinese font file and Chinese Input Method Platform. SCIM Chinese Input Method platform:SCIM-147-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (20 mb)
(or any of their newer versions)

Precise 5.7.1 fctix: after install, xwin crashed

#167 Post by pewekodok »

referring icake post, I tried to install fctix for my daily use precise 5.7.1.
Installation went without problem, but post-install gave me problem.
After install, I restarted my xwin and xwin crashed.
tried to rerun xorgwizard, still xwin crashed.

Before installation on daily use precise, I tried to install on clean puppy (pfix=ram, copy)
Installation went smooth, xwin restarted without problem.

any suggestion?

thanks

May I suggest:

1. first install fcitx Chinese Input Method platform:fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (12 mb)
2. restart xwin to see if fcitx can operate (no Chinese menus)
3. then install precise-5.7.1-zhcn-8.0.1.pet
4 restart xwin to see if menus are Chinese

if the above failed, you may try the previous version pet:
5. on a clean English Puppy, install precise-5.7.1-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet
6. restart xwin to see if you got both fcitx and Chinese menus.

Banksy2 was released by greengeek on Jul 14, 2014

aim:
getting booted and online quickly and easily without having to use a savefile
new feature - by clicking a single icon you can now burn a new iso containing your personal locale settings and wifi info - without remastering!
ideal for people who are using internet banking, or Wifi users who want puppy to be able to connect without making a savefile, and without having to type their wifi password each boot.
ideal for Windows users who want a safer environment for online banking or general browsing, or who need an alternative way to boot their machine if Windows is not functional.
You get a fresh boot every time - nothing retained from the previous session - but still configured with your chosen personal settings.

Known issues:
the new iso function has not been localized and so changes done by the Chinese language pets will not be transferred to the new iso
