Precise 5.7.1 fctix: after install, xwin crashed

#167 Post by pewekodok »

referring icake post, I tried to install fctix for my daily use precise 5.7.1.
Installation went without problem, but post-install gave me problem.
After install, I restarted my xwin and xwin crashed.
tried to rerun xorgwizard, still xwin crashed.

Before installation on daily use precise, I tried to install on clean puppy (pfix=ram, copy)
Installation went smooth, xwin restarted without problem.

any suggestion?

thanks
I have just created these new Chinese Language pets for precise 5.7.1:
precise-5.7.1-zhcn-8.0.1.pet (2.7 mb) for Simplified Chinese
fcitx Chinese Input Method platform:fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.1.pet

May I suggest:

1. first install fcitx Chinese Input Method platform:fcitx-420-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (12 mb)
2. restart xwin to see if fcitx can operate (no Chinese menus)
3. then install precise-5.7.1-zhcn-8.0.1.pet
4 restart xwin to see if menus are Chinese

if the above failed, you may try the previous version pet:
5. on a clean English Puppy, install precise-5.7.1-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet
6. restart xwin to see if you got both fcitx and Chinese menus.

Banksy2 was released by greengeek on Jul 14, 2014

aim:
getting booted and online quickly and easily without having to use a savefile
new feature - by clicking a single icon you can now burn a new iso containing your personal locale settings and wifi info - without remastering!
ideal for people who are using internet banking, or Wifi users who want puppy to be able to connect without making a savefile, and without having to type their wifi password each boot.
ideal for Windows users who want a safer environment for online banking or general browsing, or who need an alternative way to boot their machine if Windows is not functional.
You get a fresh boot every time - nothing retained from the previous session - but still configured with your chosen personal settings.

"singleclick" version:

I have created these new Chinese Language pets for Banksy2:
Traditional Chinese: banksy-dc02-zhhk-8.0.2.pet (2.1 mb)
Simplified Chinese: banksy-dc02-zhcn-8.0.2.pet (1.7 mb)

Please note that starting from version 8.0.0, the Chinese Language pets do not include Chinese font file and Chinese Input Method Platform. The recommended method to use these Chinese Language pets is to install the universal half-Chinese Language pets. The required lowest versions of universal half-Chinese Language pets for Vincent Van Pup 3992 are:

SCIM Chinese Input Method platform:SCIM-147-en-zh-8.0.1.pet (20 mb)

Known issues:

Precise 5.7.1 fctix: solved

#170 Post by pewekodok »

thx icake for prompt reply

fcitx already installed successfully
after fcitx installation, restart xserver from menu->shutdown

note: ctrl-alt-backspace after fcitx installation will make xwin crash

To activate either fcitx or SCIM, you first move the cursor to an input window (e.g. the input area of Abiword or web browser), then you press Ctrl+space.

When you crash after installing fcitx, did you press Ctrl+space or Ctrl-alt-backspace?
