Chinese Language pets

#76 Post by icake »

To remove Shuangpin from the list of available input methods under Chinese Language pet with fcitx-420:
1. edit the file /root/.config/fcitx/profile
2. find the line that starts with "EnabledIMList=..." (around line 17)
and change the parameter after shuangpin from ":True" to ":False", e.g.
from ==> EnabledIMList=XXXXX,shuangpin:True,XXXXX
to ==> EnabledIMList=XXXXX,shuangpin:False,XXXXX
3. save the file and restart X server, or reboot
4. similarly, you can turn on/off any other input methods from the selection list by changing the parameter True/False right after the name of a particular input method

simplicity is a puppy linux derivative developed by the Simplicity linux Team lead by David Purse.

A new version 1310 was released on Oct 17, 2013. It was based on Raring Puppy 3.9.9.1 developed by Pemasu and uses the LXDE desktop. It has 4 versions: Obsidian, Netbook, Desktop and Media (Media 1310 is coming)

1. Obsidian is a bare bone version. You have network manager and a few tools to help you set up the system.
2. Netbook comes with more software but most things are cloud based to ensure a quick system on a netbook.
3. Desktop is a full blown distribution and has VLC, Skype, LibreOffice.
4. Media aims at a PC in a lounge or bedroom. It replaced the normal desktop with XBMC (a media player shell) to handle media files

I have made and uploaded 8 new Chinese Language pets for simplicity 1310 (desktop and obsidian) to the public sharing folder. Please see the first posting of this subject for download addresses.
The names of these pets are:
Image
more information about simplicity: http://simplicitylinux.org/
download Obsidian1310Final.iso (186 mb); http://sourceforge.net/projects/simplic ... o/download
download Desktop1310Final.iso (348 mb): http://sourceforge.net/projects/simplic ... o/download

The 2 pdf documentation files (available in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese) in the public folder had also been updated to include simplicity 1310.
The latest shared universal half-Chinese Language pets: fcitx-420-en-zh-7.2.2.pet and SCIM-147-en-zh-7.2.2.pet can handle simplicity 1310 already.

Known issue:
a. simplicicty 1310 (Obsidian and Desktop) has a shutdown bug. The system cannot shutdown nor restart X directly. To restart X for the Chinese Language pets to work, you need to:
i. enter the GUI command for "restart X" as usual: Settings/Shutdown/restart X
ii. open a terminal, type "reboot" and hit "return" button.

I have uploaded 2 updated Puppy Linux universal half-Chinese Language pets to the public sharing folder. Key change is to add the Chewing Chinese Input Method to fcitx and SCIM input platforms.
Also uploaded are 2 equivalent .deb files to handle Puppy lxpup 14 (because lxpup 14 can only run .deb files)

These universal half-Chinese Language pets can handle 52 32-bit English Puppy systems in 20 different Puppy classes listed below:
Image
The names of these pets/debs are:

1. fcitx input platform:fcitx-4.2.0-en-zh-7.3.0.pet (12 mb); fcitx-4.2.0-en-zh-7.3.0.deb (12 mb)
2. SCIM input platform:SCIM-1.4.7-en-zh-7.3.0.pet (20 mb); SCIM-1.4.7-en-zh-7.3.0.deb (20 mb)

After you applied one of these language pets/debs to an English version of Puppy, you will get:

1. Chinese word file wqy-microhei.ttf

2. the fcitx Chinese Input Method platform comes with these 5 Chinese Input Methods:
新酷音, 谷歌拼音, 拼音, 雙拼, 五筆字型
Chewing, Google pinyin, pinyin, shuangpin, wubi

3. the SCIM Chinese Input Method platform has these 17 Traditional Chinese Input Methods:
新酷音,

many thanks icake for your efforts on the Chinese/half-Chinese language packs. The slacko-5.5-zh-ensm-6.1.1.6 package was successful and allowed me to view Chinese in my LibreOffice 4.0 writer as well. There have been no problems with it. My puppy is the Slacko-5.5XL.

Hi back.
I am using SCIM with no problem in my Slacko 5.5 but I wanted to install fcitx so I could use Google Pinyin but I get this message when I try to run it:

I also tried to install scim-googlepinyin in SCIM but I had some problems compiling so I can't use it in SCIM either.

Any ideas how to make any of these options work? I like the way Google pinyin writes chinese characteres as I don't have to use vowels. For example just write nh for nihao (你好). Or maybe there is other way to do it with SCIM?

Thanks

When you were having problems running fcitx, did you run the slacko 5.5 fcitx pets or did you install fcitx onto the SCIM pet?
If you were running slacko 5.5 fcitx pets, which one were your using:
the latest Chinese Language pets for slacko 5.5 are,
slacko-5.5-zhhk-fx-7.0.1.pet for Traditional Chinese
slacko-5.5-zhcn-fx-7.0.1.pet for Simplified Chinese

If you want to add SCIM google-pinyin, my suggestion is to find an SCIM google-pinyin pet or debian deb from the web and apply them directly.

Up to now, I have not been successful in compiling fcitx nor SCIM from source myself so I am unable to provide any positive comments about this approach.

Hi,
Thanks for your answers, icake. First I used the universal installer 'fcitx-4.2.0-en-zh-7.3.0.pet'. I have tried with the 5.5 slacko file you told me but I get the same error.

Installed a .rpm package of scim-googlepinyin but didn't work either (scim-googlepinyin-0.1-0.20101114.1mdv2011.0.x86_64.rpm). :(

Anyways is not big deal and SCIM works great, I just have to type every hanzi individually and with all its letters in pinyin. :D

Thank you very much for your work!

yosi666, if I understand you correctly, you want to add googlepinyin to SCIM. This is what I did:

a. downloaded a scim-googlepinyin debian deb file
b. undebed the deb to get all the files inside
c. merged these deb files into the SCIM-147-zh-en-7.3.0.pet files
d. created a new pet SCIM-147-zh-en-7.3.0.g.pet

I have tested this .g.pet on slacko-5.5 and when SCIM is on, googlepinyin is one of the choices available under Simplified Chinese. Because I am not an experienced user of googlepinyin, I just know that it is available and working, but cannot tell if everything is fine.

Please test the .g.pet and see if it is ok. You can download it from the public share folder:

What can I say... simply great!!! :o :D :o :D

EDIT: Sorry to say that didn't work so well for me as I thought in the first time. After trying it for a while I realized that I couldn't enter the Scim Setup and also changed the configuration of the fonts in my Menus. So I tried to delete it and go back to my previous version... and couldn't do it. Then I saw that still had some scim folders on my system files and deleted them manually. Now I am back to my previous scim files which are:
scim 1.4.14
scim-bridge-0.4.16
scim-m17n-0.2.3
scim-pinyin-0.5.91
scim-tables-0.5.9
(all of them from slacko repositories)

Such a shame :( , I've been using the google-scimpinyin for a few minutes and worked very well...
I don't know, maybe I had some kind of incompatibility with any of my other gtk programs...
Could you upload the debian package that you used so maybe I can try it directly with my SCIM version?

The debian deb that I used was: scim-googlepinyin_0.0+git20091231-0ppa2~hardy1_i386.deb (1.6 M) downloaded from: http://ppa.launchpad.net/happyaron/ppa/ ... glepinyin/

Now that I have more time to think about it, there is a better way to do it:

1. the way that I did:
download the scim-googlepinyin deb;
undeb the deb;
unpet the universal half-Chinese Language pet;
merge the files
create a new pet
install the new pet to a new system without SCIM

this method cost me about 20-30 minutes

2. if you have already set up SCIM on your system, you can:
download the scim-googlepinyin deb
install the deb directly to your system

I have not tried this method but the estimated time should be less than 5 minutes

Best wishes.

Chinese Language pets

#94 Post by icake »

A user of the Puppy Chinese Forum posted a message describing some problems in applying the Chinese Language pets and Universal Half-Chinese Language pets for Akita beta 15.
As a result, I found 2 bugs in the Chinese Language pets and Universal Half-Language pets for akita beta 15.
The first bug was created during uploading pets to the sharing folders and will make the pets unable to install. This has been fixed.
The second bug sometimes will create 2 copies of the desktop partition labels, the copy in front is normal while the copy in the background is not usable. I spent a few hours trying to fix this bug without success.
Because this bug only affects the appearance of the desktop and everything else are working normally, I decided to release a workable copy of the pets and will fix the bug later. There are 6 revised pets:
akita-be15-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet
akita-be15-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.pet
fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.0.pet
SCIM-147-en-zh-7.3.0.pet
These 6 pets have been uploaded to the public sharing folders. All the old files were renamed by adding 2013Nov to their names. For example, the old file fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.0.pet was renamed to fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.0.2013Nov.pet。
I want to thank the user again for reporting the problem which leads to the creation of revised and improved pets.

Further to the message dated Dec 14 about the bugs for Akita beta 15, the 2nd bug has now been fixed.
4 revised Chinese Language pets were created:
akita-be15-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.final.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.final.pet
akita-be15-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.final.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.final.pet
They have been posted to the public sharing folders。
May I thank the unnamed user for pointing out the problem so that I have a chance to fix it。
