What can I say... simply great!!! :o :D :o :D

EDIT: Sorry to say that didn't work so well for me as I thought in the first time. After trying it for a while I realized that I couldn't enter the Scim Setup and also changed the configuration of the fonts in my Menus. So I tried to delete it and go back to my previous version... and couldn't do it. Then I saw that still had some scim folders on my system files and deleted them manually. Now I am back to my previous scim files which are:
scim 1.4.14
scim-bridge-0.4.16
scim-m17n-0.2.3
scim-pinyin-0.5.91
scim-tables-0.5.9
(all of them from slacko repositories)

Such a shame :( , I've been using the google-scimpinyin for a few minutes and worked very well...
I don't know, maybe I had some kind of incompatibility with any of my other gtk programs...
Could you upload the debian package that you used so maybe I can try it directly with my SCIM version?

The debian deb that I used was: scim-googlepinyin_0.0+git20091231-0ppa2~hardy1_i386.deb (1.6 M) downloaded from: http://ppa.launchpad.net/happyaron/ppa/ ... glepinyin/

Now that I have more time to think about it, there is a better way to do it:

1. the way that I did:
download the scim-googlepinyin deb;
undeb the deb;
unpet the universal half-Chinese Language pet;
merge the files
create a new pet
install the new pet to a new system without SCIM

this method cost me about 20-30 minutes

2. if you have already set up SCIM on your system, you can:
download the scim-googlepinyin deb
install the deb directly to your system

I have not tried this method but the estimated time should be less than 5 minutes

Best wishes.

A user of the Puppy Chinese Forum posted a message describing some problems in applying the Chinese Language pets and Universal Half-Chinese Language pets for Akita beta 15.
As a result, I found 2 bugs in the Chinese Language pets and Universal Half-Language pets for akita beta 15.
The first bug was created during uploading pets to the sharing folders and will make the pets unable to install. This has been fixed.
The second bug sometimes will create 2 copies of the desktop partition labels, the copy in front is normal while the copy in the background is not usable. I spent a few hours trying to fix this bug without success.
Because this bug only affects the appearance of the desktop and everything else are working normally, I decided to release a workable copy of the pets and will fix the bug later. There are 6 revised pets:
akita-be15-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet
akita-be15-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.pet
fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.0.pet
SCIM-147-en-zh-7.3.0.pet
These 6 pets have been uploaded to the public sharing folders. All the old files were renamed by adding 2013Nov to their names. For example, the old file fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.0.pet was renamed to fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.0.2013Nov.pet。
I want to thank the user again for reporting the problem which leads to the creation of revised and improved pets.

Further to the message dated Dec 14 about the bugs for Akita beta 15, the 2nd bug has now been fixed.
4 revised Chinese Language pets were created:
akita-be15-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.final.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.final.pet
akita-be15-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.final.pet
akita-be15-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.final.pet
They have been posted to the public sharing folders。
May I thank the unnamed user for pointing out the problem so that I have a chance to fix it。

01micko has created a number of Puppy derivatives and Thinslacko is one of them.

ThinSlacko is Slacko designed for slightly older kit. It should run fine on a PIII 600MHz with 256MB RAM, or even lower specs.

ThinSlacko 5.5.04 was released on Mar 31, 2013. More information : http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=85348

Download from : http://puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/ ... ko-5.5.01/
files include:
THINSlacko-5.5.01-SCSI-XZ.iso (122 mb); GZ (145 mb)
adrv_slacko_5.5.01.sfs 21 mb
5.5.01_5.5.03-XZ.iso.delta 24 mb
5.5.03_5.5.04-XZ.iso.delta 21 mb

Features
Adrive has drivers not included in iso

01micko has created a number of Puppy derivatives and PHATSlacko is one of them.

Its the opposite of thinslacko and previously called FATSlacko, designed for production. PHAT means Productivity enHanced And Tuned.

PHATSlacko 5.5.02 was released on Mar 11, 2013. More information : http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84913

Download PHATSlacko-5.5.02-ORIGINAL.iso (409 mb) from : http://puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/ ... ko-5.5.02/

Features
based on slacko 5.5
includes kernel 3.8.2 source, md5, devx etc
minimum system: pentium 686 class processor, with the PAE instruction, 2GHz single core, 1 GHz dual core, 1 GB RAM, preferably with swap.
runs well on a USB stick, using f2fs (Flash Friendly File System).
LibreOffice 4.0.1 - full office suite
Samba 4.0 - for serving your files across the network
VLC 2.0.5 - default for watching DVD's and videos
Audacious 3.3.4 - default for mp3's and CD's plus Pmusic too
Kompozer - for HTML editing
Transmission 2.77 - with GTK+3 libraries
JRE 1.7 Update17 - no browser plugin enabled
Ipscan 0.3 - Angry IP Scanner, uses Java.

I have created 4 new Chinese Language pets for PHATSlacko 5.5.02:

phatslacko-5502-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet
phatslacko-5502-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.pet
phatslacko-5502-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet
phatslacko-5502-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.pet

In order to conserve storage space and download time, I have uploaded 4 delta.pet files to the public sharing folders. Please see first post for the download addresses.

thinslacko-5504-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet__phatslacko-5502-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet.delta (1.6 mb)
thinslacko-5504-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.pet__phatslacko-5502-zhhk-sm-7.3.0.pet.delta (1.6 mb)
thinslacko-5504-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet__phatslacko-5502-zhcn-fx-7.3.0.pet.delta (1.7 mb)
thinslacko-5504-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.pet__phatslacko-5502-zhcn-sm-7.3.0.pet.delta (1.7 mb)

To get the pet, just download "A.pet" with "A.pet__B.pet.delta" and run the delta file
For example, to get "phatslacko-5502-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet":
1. download 2 files: thinslacko-5504-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet and thinslacko-5504-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet__phatslacko-5502-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet.delta
2. put them in the same folder
3. run thinslacko-5504-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet__phatslacko-5502-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet.delta
4. a new file phatslacko-5502-zhhk-fx-7.3.0.pet will be created
5. check that the new pet file is executable, if not, change it to executable before applying

I have tested the latest released universal half-Chinese Language pets:

fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.1.pet
SCIM-147-en-zh-7.3.1.pet

and they can handle PHATSlacko 5.5.02 already.

In order to save storage space and upload/download time, I have decided to use a new approach to release the Chinese Language pets.

Background
The existing method creates 6 independent pets for each English Puppy:
A. 2 Universal half-Chinese Language pets -- for fcitx input platform and SCIM input platform
B. 4 full Chinese Language pets
a. Simplified Chinese with fcitx input platform
b. Simplified Chinese with SCIM input platform
c. Traditional Chinese with fcitx input platform
d. Tradtional Chinese eith SCIM input platform

Each group of 6 Old Chinese Language pets has duplication in these area:
1. The fcitx and SCIM input platform exist in 3 different pets
2. The Chinese font file exist in all 6 pets

Key changes in the new approach:
A. there are no changes in the universal half-Chinese Language pets. There will still be 2 universal half-Chinese Language pets, 1 for fcitx and 1 for SCIM input platforms.
B. the full Chinese Language pets will be changed as follows:
a. the number of full Chinese Language pets will be reduced from 4 to 2, 1 for Simplified Chinese and 1 for Traditional Chinese
b. the fcitx and SCIM input platform and Chinese font files will be removed
c. the user needs to install either 1 of the universal half-Chinese Language pets to get the Chinese fonts and 1 of the input platforms
d. the new size of the full Chinese Language pets will be reduced to about 1 mb for the Traditional Chinese and 2 mb for the Simplified Chinese pets
e. to reflect the changes, the names of these pets will be called zhhk and zhcn (dropping the fx and sm)

The first English Puppy using this approach is the ce 4 and the names of the new pets are:
1. ce-4-zhhk-8.0.0.pet (1 mb) and
2. ce-4-zhcn-8.0.0.pet (2 mb)

To use these pets:
a. install either one of the universal half-Chinese Language pets (latest version is fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.1.pet (12 mb) and SCIM-147-en-zh-7.3.1.pet (20 mb))
b. install either one of the new pets for Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese

The new pets are available now in the public sharing folders. Please see the first posting of this subject for the download addresses.

quirky-6.1.3-zhcn-8.0.0.pet (2.9 mb) (Simplified Chinese)

Please note that starting from version 8.0.0, the Chinese Language pets do not include Chinese input method platform nor Chinese fonts. The recommend method to use these pets is to install a half-Chinese Language pet prior to install the above pets, the latest half-Chinese Language pet are:
fcitx-420-en-zh-7.3.1.pet (12 mb) for the fcitx input platform or
SCIM-147-en-zh-7.3.1.pet (20 mb) for the SCIM input platform

These Chinese Language and half-Chinese Language pets can be downloaded from the public sharing folder. Please see first post of this subject for the download addresses.

Chinese Language Pets

#110 Post by icake »

The 64bit Puppy system family has 2 new additions, Fatdog64 630rc2 and Slacko64 5.8.6.

I am creating new Chinese Language pets for them using the same approach as for the 32bit Puppy system:

a. first create universal half-Chinese Language pets with Chinese font file and Chinese input platform (either fcitx or SCIM)

b. followed by a version specific Chinese Language pet to display desktop and menus in Chinese but without the Chinese fonts and Chinese input platform

Part(a)has now been done and 2 new half-Chinese Language pets for the 64bit Puppy system were uploaded to the public sharing folder:
fcitx64-420-en-zh-1.0.0.pet
SCIM64-1414-en-zh-1.0.0.pet

Please see first post of this subject for the download addresses

Features of these half-Chinese Language pets:

1.each can handle anyone of these 3 64bit Puppy English systems:
lighthouse64 602; fatdog64 630rc2 and slacko64 5.8.6

2. fcitx64 has the fcitx input platform version 4.2.0 with 4 Chinese Input Methods
