Brightside hot corners add gnome'ish feel to Puppy

#1 Post by rufwoof »

To add a somewhat gnome'ish (gnome 3) feel to your Pup ....

1. Using tahr 6.0.6 (other versions/Pup's might also have brightside in their repositories) install brightside from PPM

2. menu, setup, startup control ... and add brightside (so its launched each time you boot)

3. In a terminal run brightside-properties and set a hot corner (I ticked the top left choice) and select 'Toggle between showing desktops' from the drop down choices.

Restart X and now when you move the mouse into the defined corner its as though you've clicked the panel show/hide desktop icon.

Arrange your desktop icons for the apps/docs you use regularly and that's quite a nice launcher arrangement IMO. If for instance you've a word document full screened, and want to launch galculator, then mouse into the top left ... to reveal the desktop icons and click the gcalculator icon, mouse back again to the top left and you have your word document restored full screen again with the calculator ready to go.

IMO that's superior to Gnome3 (and so much quicker too).

Prefer a clean desktop free of icons and a nice image instead? Then perhaps consider this ... that caters for turning puppy icons (desktop) off ... and where that empty desktop space can be filled with what you like, such as a image, animation or even mp4. Maybe set another brightside hot corner to toggle between desktop icons showing or not (write a toggle rox desktop script and set brightside to 'Custom Action' and name that script).
